Once you’ve accepted the absurdity that is the Torah/Old Testament (which RBG also believes in), you lose all ability to claim the rational/logical high ground.

Yeah, I too would think the concept of handmaid is an appreciation of the Virgin Mary's association, as in the Magnificat prayer, wherein that role as humble handmaid to God results in Mary being honored and remembered. It should be regarded as a positive and in no way should be a big deal (as a negative), but many things that shouldn't be a big deal have become so.
