Was at a United Way event today for work in which we were discussing their new focus to reduce poverty in South Louisiana.

The discussion cited two key things that made it difficult for families to save their income & better themselves: the cost of healthcare & the cost of childcare. These two items are somewhat related, but I will address them separately.

When you look at the current adult obesity rate in United States of approximately 40%, it’s obvious why healthcare costs are much higher than they should be. I don’t even need to explain all of the ways that obesity is harmful to one’s health and creates more need for expensive treatment.

For childcare, that cost is obviously high no matter how much income you make. However, when our fellow citizens have unintended pregnancies, or just over estimate their financial capability to raise a child, it often ruins their ability to train for or invest in their own career.

So whenever the citizens of this country will have the balls to start holding their fellow citizens accountable for their weight and accountable to not bring children into this world until they can afford it, you’ll see an unbelievable improvement in everything these charities are trying to correct.

The single easiest way to reduce daycare costs is to reform ratio laws

Our ratio laws are absurd compared to other nations

It don't always work that way for instance I had a very high paying job when my three kids were born but because of shady dealings by my employer and technology growth the whole industry went south.

It took a few years to obtain another career in a different industry altogether.

Here are the solutions (seriously):
1 - Regarding healthcare...write a 1 sentence law allowing it to be sold across statelines and then get the hell outta the healthcare biz

2 - childcare.....stay with me bc this is very, very complicated......don't.....have.....kids.....until....you....can.....afford.....them......yeah it's that simple.

I get what you're typing, but the Solution is even easier than what you think.

Most problems in this country arose because life is too easy here, and there's no simple fix for that.

1) Even with the unwanted pregnancies, we are still below replacement level rates for our population. Thats not good. Not nearly as bad as China and Europe in general, but still.

2) There are currently 6 million job openings in this country. 6 MILLION. and a lot of them are, despite muh trade job memes, actually in the trades. they pay very well. the conditions are not ideal. This will only get worse...

3) the muh college to succeed meme. Those open jobs would have been filled by kids who learned trades or learned they had a liking to the trades in high school or sooner. Until the stigma of needing college to succeed is eradicated those jobs will never get filled to their true potential

4) Trump is actually trying to exacerbate the unfilled job problem by halting the enrichment of Europe and China at the expense of our middle class. If you know what a J curve is in econ then you know what he is proposing is quite possibly the most drastic J curve of all time. But if it works, my God. Itll make the roaring 20's or the dot com boom of the 90's look like the 1% growth of the Obama years by comparison.

5) Are we actually going to fix the problem? Probably not. Its not come conspiracy either. The whole system is so dependent on easy debt (College tuition, welfare, subsidies of all forms) and so many people need things to stay this way, ( the large corp owners need cheap chinese and mexican labor to make wall st happy and they in turn keep feeding politicians to make sure it stays that way) that unless some unforeseen black swan comes to fix this problem for us (large volcano, India-Paksitan nuke showdown, China bombing taiwan, etc) it will stay this way for some time to come.

I've said it over and over on this very message board: If you want to solve the majority of Americas' problems, stop paying people to feed, breed and vote for D's....

Interesting. These are probably the two things that bother me most about people. Having too many kids they can't afford or mentally or emotionally handle and fatties.

All excellent points.

Can you expound on this?

I'll ask the same question we ask of the Weather Cultists: What is the proper amount?

With the Climate Cultists it is: What is the correct temperature? So with Healthcare Costs: What is the correct amount of money? Just what exactly is "the correct cost"?

Same goes for childcare. How much is too much? How much is too little? How much is just right?

All this bs discussion over correct costs is just a modern Goldilocks and the 3 bears.

There are no 2 biggest problems in America, there's one: I got mine and jealous others want it. ("it" being anything and everything: health, wealth, freedom, etc..)

Thank you! Been saying this for years. This "everybody needs to get a college degree" mantra is just a money grab by the college industries and student loan programs. We will always need millwrights, pipefitters, welders, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc.

The biggest turnaround ever in the modern world was what happened to Germany when it decided to stop being Weimar. You should look there for guidance.

That’s why the tax plan doubled the child tax credit and now pushing paid family leave..

Trumps Tariffs are a way to reverse to offshoring of american manufacturing jobs. This of course will cause issues as factories re-tool and restart and hire folks. Prices will go up while this is happening of course. Companies will still need some of the stuff coming from China, even if it hurts the bottom line. Thats the bottom of the J. If it works, and more people are employed in jobs here then all that wealth that was meant for China and Mexico will also stay here. Then the economy starts to boom. that is the top part of the J. that is a dream scenario.

Im guessing rump is pretty serious about this too after announcing more tariffs on Europe.

The truth is, we are uniquely vertically integrated as an economy. More so than China or Europe. They need us a hell of a lot more than we need them, by something of a factor of like 10-1. We have all the power yet we keep letting them screw our middle class left and right for decades now. Hopefully that ends soon.
