House Republicans on Monday unveiled their long-awaited legislation to repeal and replace ObamaCare. The two measures dismantle the core aspects of ObamaCare, including its subsidies to help people buy coverage, its expansion of Medicaid, its taxes and its mandates for people to have insurance. (READ THE BILLS HERE AND HERE.) In its place, Republicans would put in place a new system centered on a tax credit to help people buy insurance. That tax credit would range from $2,000 to $4,000 a year, increasing with someone's age. That system would provide less financial assistance for low-income and older people than ObamaCare, but could give more assistance to younger people and those with somewhat higher incomes.

But not everyone would HAVE to have health insurance?

So it's basically what Rand Paul was fearing? Watered down Obamacare.

...and then there's this.

But GOP leaders did not issue cost or coverage estimates for their plan, which is still being reviewed by nonpartisan congressional budgetary scorekeepers, and there were signs Monday that fellow Republicans could balk if the legislation leaves swaths of the country without insurance coverage.
Four key Republican senators said they would oppose any new plan that would leave millions of Americans uninsured. Sens. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Shelley Moore Capito (R. W.Va.), Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said they would vote against any reform bill that fails to protect Americans who became eligible for coverage under the ACA’s expansion of Medicaid, the government-run health program for the poor and disabled.

Let's just go back to the old system but with price controls. Better than this garbage

Just Repeal! We don't need a stupid replacement.
I don't want GOPcare anymore than I wanted Obamacare.
This is a MESS.

The reality of politics pretty much ensures this can't/won't happen

Price controls on health insurance/medicine is truly a smart idea.

The tax credits are based on age and nothing more.
So a smoker who weighs 300 pounds and is 25 will get a bigger subsidy than a fit 50 year old with no health problems.
Can't wait to see them sell that garbage plan.

Yeah, that wasn't going all that great either. The Kaiser Family Foundation projected (these are rough numbers from memory) it would cost something like $18,000 to insure a family of 4. That why Obama and McCain developed health care overhauls in the first place.

Why not just make premiums tax deductible?
2-4K is really nothing compared to what we pay for insurance and the rates are gonna keep climbing.

So how many millions will lose health insurance? How much money will higher income people save?
Pre-existing conditions?
