quote:

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Tamaulipas -- An American family returning to the U.S. after a holiday visit to Mexico came under attack just south of Texas on Saturday night, with armed gunmen killing a 13-year-old and wounding three other people.

The attorney general's office in the state of Tamaulipas said the child was a U.S. citizen and that the parents were permanent residents of the U.S. They did not release the victims' names.

quote:

The family was traveling in a Chevrolet SUV with Oklahoma state plates, returning from a holiday visit to relatives in the state of San Luis Potosi.

The highway on which they were shot is considered high risk. It runs through an area that's disputed by criminal groups, including the Gulf Cartel and Zetas.

The road connects the city of Mier with Nueva Ciudad Guerrero, on the banks of the Rio Grande across the US-Mexico border from Falcon Heights, Texas.

God damn animals.

Probably ok to fly to Cozumel, Tulum, etc.. but not advisable to *drive* through Mexico.

Very true. Wife had family drive into Mexico to visit family members. Were forced over by armed gunman after the border and demanded $400 from them ($100 per). If they didn't comply they forced them back to the border in which the police will demand $100 per to get back into the US.

Need to send special forces and do some strategic cleaning up.

Mexico is markedly more dangerous than most places in Africa. I think it's crazy that Americans still so casually go there for "vacation".

The article is scant on details. There's probably more to this story.

So they were a Mexican family living in the US, possibly illegally, with a US-born child.

A terrible tragedy, but if anyone should have been aware of the risks associated with driving across the border into cartel-controlled territory, it would be these folks.

3rd world shite holes, are, well, 3rd world shite holes.

It's amazing how shocked people act about gun deaths in Mexico. There are really no police, and the Army has to wear masks, for fear of death to them or their families by drug lords.

Mexico is a 3rd world shite hole.

Same here. How the frick does a child born to two supposed Mexican nationals have more legal right than its parents? Very strange

Far more but that part of it may not fit the narrative.
