Am I crazy to think men should be allowed to pull social security before women?

We don't live as long (this is undisputed), and, in general, we pay more into the system.

I've always believed it should be tied to occupation.

it is the more you pay in the more you get out.

unless you die then you don't get shite. A teacher can do their job more safely at 64 than a high steel worker can.

That's true. Viola Jackson received her benefits after her husband died. He was a Civil War veteran. She got the money until she died in 2020.

I think what he's saying is that a blue collar occupation should be able to retire earlier than a white collar. Don't want old HVAC workers working in 120 degree attics, but a CPA sitting in the AC can work to an older age.
Key for the blue collar people is to invest in their own retirement plan so they can retire earlier.

I see what you are saying, but you are confusing SS with a retirement plan. SS is really a "poverty insurance" plan. It's meant to keep people out of poverty as they age.
So if you die early, the only concern is how your surviving spouse (or kids if you die real young) are taken care of.
It's more than that, but that's the core of its original purpose.

You’re gonna get social security? That’s cute.

My point still stands. Retirement age to get my money back should be lower for a logger than a receptionist.

I almost had a stroke when he said nobody should be retiring at 65

It’s almost like he views normal Americans as cattle or something

Australia has one level of Social Security benefit: 100% of the poverty level.
Their SS systems is designed solely to keep people out of poverty. Compared to ours, it is a small percentage of the Gov. Budget.
We should do that for younger people, You should only have to pay in until you accumulate enough credits to fund that payment for life. However, we should keep the 12.4% tax in effect, give a credit for SS taxes paid against them, then allow a deduction for the remaining amount to go into 401K or IRA, etc. If a taxpayer doesn't fund those things, just tax them.
Everyone should note that the investing world is different today than when I entered the workforce. Even fifteen years ago it was too expensive for brokerages to have millions of small accounts. These days, they can do it. That was one barrier to all the grand privatization plans back in the day.
There's no reason why we couldn't introduce a series of annuities with low costs that everyone could have access to that could replace SS and do better. We could probably do the same thing with medicare.

SS is a ponzi scheme and we arent allowed to opt out. Just more theft from the total state.
