You have no idea who Trump talked to about Greenland.

Trump announced the deal just after a meeting just between him and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The clip I shared was Trump coming out of that meeting. Rutte said that he and Trump discussed only security matters.

Neither the Greenland Premier nor the Danish Prime Minister have any idea what "deal or framework" to which the President was referring.

From the Trump-friendly New York Post's reporting:

Greenland Premier: No Deal in Place

"The day after President Trump announced a “framework” to acquire Greenland, the leader of that island said he’s not sure what the president meant.
“I don’t know what’s in the deal,” Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the premier of Greenland, told reporters in Nuuk on Thursday.
Trump, who has repeatedly made clear he wants ownership of the island, left a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Davos on Wednesday and announced “the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland” was in place.

.....

Meanwhile, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told reporters that Rutte doesn’t speak for her country.
“NATO does not have a mandate to negotiate on behalf of Denmark and Greenland. As I understand it, discussions have focused on increased NATO engagement in the High North and the Arctic region,” she said."

The people of Greenland have said no.

I take it you think the President wasn't exaggerating when he said "It's a deal that people jumped at."

Seems like a lot of Trump’s plans play out decently so I won’t bet against.

I agree. I'm rooting for him. He had me convinced that we actually needed to own Greenland.

I'm not betting against him, I just think he's laying on the bullshite too thick this time. No one outside of the MAGA bubble thinks there is an actual deal or even framework of a deal.

I don't know why the President changed course, but inventing this "deal" or "framework" was just a to save face. One thing is for sure, we will never see any details about how the alleged "deal/framework" was worked out in Davos.

If this is all you people have, Trump must be doing a great job.

We've told people a thousand times that Trump negotiates in public, but some just can't grasp that concept. They think these gotcha attempts are actually relevant while they unknowingly display their ignorance to the world.

2015 was a decade ago. It's been not-stop coverage. How long does it take to figure out how Trump operates?

IOt sounds like he got NATO to put their tiny wieners back in their pants and to stop pissing on something that is not their business. Now, he will set it up to let the people of Greenland decide.

But even according to Trump the only "deal" or "framework" of a deal is with the NATO Secretary General.

You are right. It's Trumpspeak. Nothing he talks about ever ends up happening.

So, you agree it's "Trumpspeak"...something he just made up for purposes of negotiating? That's all I was asking.

I hope it works, but once people accept that he lies as a part of negotiating, they adjust their strategies.

Do you breathe through a tube to move your wheelchair around? I have seen you, just today, go from one end of the spectrum to the other regarding this. Do you ever think for yourself?
Nah, you're just a troll. Disingenuous at that.

Denmark can lose bigly here. They gave away a lot after WW11, mainly security for Greenland. Greenland can demand autonomy at anytime which Denmark rights are done. We can absorb with some help to the islanders

I always think for myself. I have no idea how you are defining "this." I have been supportive of our trying to acquire Greenland through peaceful means. I am aware that Trump negotiates with inferiors by making threats he doesn't intend to carry out.

I was just curious what others thought about Trump's particular statement about a deal or framework being in place. My thought was "surely no one believes this, even Mark Rutte said Trump and he didn't discuss anything beyond security matters...how could Trump have agreed to a framework of a deal that 'gives us everything we wanted' without even talking to Greenland or Denmark about the idea hatched in his meeting with Rutte?"

Apparently, some people believed President Trump about that. My curiosity is satisfied...if that's OK with you.

He said they only discussed about how to "collectively protect the Arctic region." How can you interpret that as "America got everything it wanted?"
