Sad for Delonte West.

However, this country has decided that treatment and placing these people into asylums is not a priority in recent times.

All of these people living in the streets need to be screened and I’d found to have mental illness housed away from the rest of society.

We had asylums in the past now they are seen as not being politically correct and the rest of us have the pleasure of running into these people in our cities.

Get them off the streets and into asylums.

Don't frick LeBron's mom is the moral of this story. You'll end up smoking rocks on the streets.

Anyone going to shame him for letting his teammate / stepdad fall to this level?

Bipolar disorder.

West had numerous mental health issues that were well known while he was in the NBA.

I have 3 diagnosed mental illnesses that almost ruined my life, but then after I sought help I also followed the treatment plan, which for bipolar people is take your fricking pill.

As a mentally ill person, I want to have empathy for guys like him, but I don't because step 1 is take the pill, which brings you to every other step. Set a reminder or 7 if you need to, but take it every day.

Also, don't frick LeBron's mom.

So to summarize:
1. Take your meds
2. Don't frick LeBron's mom

ETA I am not bipolar or schizo, fwiw but I understand living with mental illness

You are preaching to the choir here.

Unfortunately, I know all too well that bipolar people don’t take their meds because they don’t like how they are on them or other issues. Getting them to stay on a regiment is like herding cats.

It’s a cycle that sees them take the meds and stop or decide to self-medicate instead.

Yes. I had to convince myself that I had a brain that lied to me. When you accept that your own consciousness betrays your best interests, taking the meds becomes easier to accept.

That's probably the only reason I haven't sprayed cherry pie all over a ceiling before now. Realizing and accepting my lot in life and refusing to be a victim of it.

He has bipolar disorder and it obviously has had a terrible effect on his life. Watched him in the nba and he was talented.

Has lost millions, obviously. Not sure he is doing crack. Wish him the best and to get the needed care.

Hard to feel sorry for a one-time multimillionaire who also happened to bang Lebron's mom.

But you're spot on, homelessness is a neglected issue.

Spot on. Why does he matter but none of the others? Because he was once a rich professional athlete?

His total earnings in a pro career of 11 seasons was $16 million, and he is homeless four years later.

Very sad, but I have trouble with the assertion that the NBA should now “take care of him.”

Did he not make enough while in the NBA to pay for medical coverage and treatment?
