Let them

Then it's on them to carry this. But she will more than likely fall in lock step.

It is depressing. The state has all of the resources and natural beauty to be a top 10 place to live. But we allowed the extreme right take over and now we get shite like this that drags us back 50 years.

It really is a shame. I mean this is a state after all that doesn't even trust their citizens to buy a lottery ticket.

many of the most highly educated people in our society agree that Singer’s conclusions are sound. Would you agree?
Singer is definitely correct in asserting that arguments on this issue (like EVERY issue) can be taken to the extreme and that the extreme extension of this particular argument can lead to unacceptable results.

EVERY argument/issue has a “slope” (some of them quite “slippery”), and the right to control our reproductive processes is no different. One steps onto that slope the moment one “pulls ou” or engages in the rhythm method ... granted that the slope is not very steep or slippery at thar point. One steps further out onto that (still gentle) slope when one uses birth control, such as condoms or hormonal pills or injections.

The slope gets steeper and more slippery when we begin to discuss the “morning after” pill and similar procedures. After all, we HAVE produced a genetically-distinct organism at that point, albeit still in the blastocyst stage, yet few seem to oppose that procedure. With early-term abortion (whether medical or surgical), we take the next step onto the slope, but the organism is not terribly different from the blastocyst and clearly much closer developmentally to that blastocyst than to a fully-developed infant. It has no higher-brain function and is clearly not yet even-remotely sapient.

Later in the pregnancy, higher-brain function DOES develop, and the organism comes to bear a much closer resemblance (physically AND cognitively) to a fully-developed infant. This is CERTAINLY true in the final trimester. The slope at is point is DAMNED steep and slippery. I would submit that at this point, it is essentially impossible to avoid bobsledding right into Singer’s hypothesis.

So, where should we interfere with the rights of our fellow citizens to walk where they wish and prevent them from taking the next step downslope?

It is not a question with a scientific answer, because any line that we draw will be arbitrary. Personally, I think we balance the competing rights of the woman against the potential “rights” of the organism growing within her. (I use the term “rights” loosely, because an unborn has no legal rights at this time.). The SECOND that organism becomes sapient, I think that its “right” not to be killed will trump those of the woman (other than health issues). I think we pick a point in time WELL before the development of higher-brain function (better safe than sorry) and draw an arbitrary line at that point.

The woman had a reasonable chance to exercise her rights before the fetus developed to the point of sapience. You snooze, you lose.

This is a state's right issue, if you don't like Alabama's abortion law, move to New York or California.

Same species.

Scientifically prove it? You will admit it if it is scientifically proven? Let’s get you on record.
