You’ve probably heard some in Alabama say “thank goodness for Mississippi.”
Well, in the case of a new ranking from US News & World Report, the more accurate description would be “thank goodness for Louisiana.”

The bottom 10 states were:
41. Pennsylvania
42. South Carolina
43. Oklahoma
44. Alaska
45. Arkansas
46. New Mexico
47. West Virginia
48. Mississippi
49. Alabama
50. Louisiana
Alabama ranked last among the states in the education category.

shite I figured Saban alone would put Bama in the top 10

And yet, I live in Alabama and my children will go to a public high school ranked #674 in the country among ALL high schools. Top 2%
"Education" rankings can be almost entirely explained by demographics.

I was surprised of that too. Especially considering the rise of Huntsville and resurgence of Bham and Mobile. Lot of manufacturing coming to the state.
But as someone else pointed out, a select few can always drag everyone else down

They moved up there after yesterday, though. Definitely a moral victory...

Were I to move across town, my kids would move from the #674 national high school to the #555 one.
Oh the horror!!!

Aside of their terrible education system which rivals Texas as being inept, the commercial progress of Bama really has made strides, attracted many massive companies to built plants there which in turn creates job and stimulates their economy.

Seattle should disqualify Washington from being best state.

There's nothing inept about it.
Would you consider Saban inept if he coached a D1 football team but was forced to have 30% of his players be 5'9 or under?

I don’t get the hate for Louisiana as a whole. There’s certainly shitty parts, but the culture, outdoors activities and food make up for it in my opinion.

Shame on you. Where you see lower level demographic people, I see future doctors, lawyers, businessmen and scientists. All we need to do is funnel about 100 Gazzillian Dollars into those disadvantaged schools and they'll be right as rain.

Hmmm. There is a major reason why they are all in the top 10 but i can't put my finger on it.

Awesome! Now do Birmingham City Schools or Montgomery County Schools!

Bottom 10: all red states except for New Mexico. Top 10: all blue states, except for Nebraska and Utah. A few exceptions, but the rules are still intact.

There's a difference between OTM schools and those in, let's say Montgomery.......

I can.
Which, would prove my point.
Alabama's "system" ain't the problem.
If it were, then my kids wouldn't be choosing between 2 nationally top 2% ranked schools.
