AG Jeff Landry (2023 Gov. Candidate): “You can’t turn the oil and gas industry on and off"

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – The state of Louisiana is leading the challenge against the Biden administration’s ban, or “pause”, on land lease sales for the oil and gas industry.
“You can’t turn the oil and gas industry on and off like a light switch,” said Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry.
Land leasing is like a finely tuned machine. The plaintiffs argue the president’s order is like gluing up the gears, so the machine doesn’t work. They’re asking a federal judge for a temporary injunction, and they argue jobs, tax revenue, and the future of the industry are at stake.
“The liberals in Washington, D.C. and in the Biden administration completely understand anytime they disrupt the oil and gas industry they disrupt our way of life,” said Landry.
During arguments in front of Federal Judge Terry Doughty, Scott St. John, Louisiana’s deputy solicitor general, said there have been no oil and gas leases since the president took office. He said the Biden is fulfilling a campaign promise that there will be no more drilling on federal lands, in an attempt to deal with the climate change.
The plaintiffs argue the president does not have the authority, only Congress does. They say the consequences of his executive order will destroy the fossil fuels industry.
However, Michael Sawyer, an attorney for the Department of Justice, argued leasing has not been paused. He said all lease requests on a case by case basis. He also revealed that a majority of the land leased in Louisiana, on shore and off shore, is not producing any oil or gas.
The government argued there are no irreparable impacts from the Department of Interior reviewing the leasing process.
Louisiana Solicitor General Liz Murrill, a Lafayette native, knows how important the oil and gas industry is to aAcadiana.
“We’re hoping the judge grants a preliminary injunction and force the government to go back to enforcing the law,” said Murrill.
It will be up to Judge Doughty to grant the temporary injunction or allow the Biden policy to continue.

I’m way more concerned about the Formosa plant.
Frankly I’m disappointed that Kennedy isn’t on Fox News nightly shining light on this issue. JBE should be on cnn.
All permits were completed and certified and now out of state attorney generals and the Biden administration is doing everything they can to hold it up

I agree.
For non-Louisiana AGs and interest to be able to file suit and prevent a company from building and operating in Louisiana is cow dung.

Actually, you can if it’s shale formations. The Bakken just shut in wells that went down. They’re bringing the Wells back on line with little loss of pressure and production.
New Wells can be drilled and completed like machines.

Jeff Landry didn’t have the balls to run against JBE. Louisiana is paying the price. Frick that coward. I’ll never vote for him.

Jeff Landry is the best candidate Louisiana has had in a long time.
I'm sure Dominion will be used to steal the election again in the big cities.

He also didn't have the chest to help Trump win the election, when given information that could have made a major impact. He's a RINO. He's not stupid, just not brave politically.

Definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face. This, ladies and gentlemen, is how you ended up with JBE.

Landry is a JBE Clone gutless and clueless

If we're looking at that 2019 Election from a historical perspective, unseating a sitting Governor in Louisiana is a very tall order. In fact, I've said it here before, if Katrina doesn't happen, Kathleen Blanco not only runs for re-election, she very likely wins. Bobby Jindal might not have even run in 2007, instead opting to remain a Congressman until 2011 presented a wide-open race with no incumbent.
And like Blanco, minus Katrina response and her public appearances which (fairly or unfairly) made her look like "a woman who can't take charge under pressure", JBE leading up to 2019 re-election campaign hadn't really done anything egregious (other than that dumb "we may have to cancel LSU football" comment) to make those white, rural social conservatives who aren't into the inside baseball politics suddenly decide to abandon their 2015 vote for him.
Therefore, why would Jeff Landry, who certainly has his eye on the top spot in Louisiana, throw huge money at a campaign like that where at best his chances are 50/50? Instead, have an easy re-election as AG where he won't have to deplete his campaign funds, continue raising money and criticizing to show an alternative from the sidelines, and wait for a non-incumbent Governor's race.
I do believe, had COVID happened (or the US spread) in late 2018/early 2019, and Gov Bel-Edwards's authoritative shutdown reactions were the same, Landry (or someone else with similar name recognition) could have challenged him and stood a better chance of defeating him. I also believe, though, in such a scenario, Edwards possibly reacts a bit different, as his political advisors would have understood that such hard-core shutdown measures would have lots him a good amount of his "cross-over" votes from 2015.

The president should not have the authority to abrogate existing contracts.

Landry is in bed with JBE... Dont trust the guy
I have heard for the last year that JBE plans on accepting some sort of admin job with biden and he will elevate Landry as interim Gov. until the election to give him a head start to win the next LA gov. race. He made a deal with JBE not to run.
