A very good article on the true meaning of the 14th Amendment

It is a short read and was written by Hans A. von Spakovsky. He is an American attorney and a former member of the Federal Election Commission (FEC). He is the manager of The Heritage Foundation's Election Law Reform Initiative and a senior legal fellow in The Heritage Foundation's Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. His parents were immigrants. His expertise is in the area of civil rights, civil justice, and immigration.

It takes 5 minutes to read. If you cared, you would’ve read it already.

14th never made Indians citizens and they were born here.

Adding others I read yesterday. We have to be able to have educated discussions on this issue. That starts with understanding.

Good heavens, just read it for a change. It's short & not very many big words. 'Course, it would have been better if there had been pictures to color.

Indians were excluded because they were concerned solely sovereign citizens of their tribal lands
The 14th amendment is shorter than this article, was tested in the WKA case over 100 years ago, and plainly states what exclusions exist for birthright citizenship. This “question” was asked and answered in the 1800s.

Its easy to find out what the people that wrote the amendment meant by it.Not what the Democrats want it to mean.

Indians were tried in American courts, which would mean they were “subject to the jurisdiction” (if we pretend that’s what that phrase meant), before they were granted citizenship.

You missed the point.
Indians were not citizens and their children were not citizens even though they were both 1) born in the US and 2) in some way “subject to the jurisdiction” as Gray ascribed meaning to the phrase.

That's a good summation of the issue and the perversion of the text of the 14th Amendment by the same type of people who want open borders.

Nice post.. that's the way I've always interpreted it.

It’s poor thread posting etiquette to link an article and giving a summary of the author but not of the article. I fight for all of us. Make Threads Better Again!

I read the article and understand the premise.
When did the 14th first get misconstrued to mean birthright citizenship for illegals? What administration?
Also, why does their family get to stay? Send them back until they are legal age at a minimum. This shite got.taken way overboard by Dems itching for constituents...

I have been arguing this point for awhile with SFP. What those that argue SFP's point is that they forget that the Native Americans were in fact under the jurisdiction of the US Government because they were conquered by the invaders. One more point and it has nothing to do with birthright citizenship. The Native Americans know from first hand experience that when a group of people come to your home land claiming to be friendly and carrying their flag and not wanting to learn the language of the land that they are really here to conquer the land when they get enough people to take over the Natives.
