re: A jury decided they were not guilty. A judge sentenced them to life in prison anyway

it’s impossible to know if that’s due to increased criminal activity or just racial bias in the criminal justice system.
You know why?
Because it's not either/or, it's both.
This really isn't hard. But you have to let go of your dogma to be able to see it.

Nothing ever changes in the black community because they and the white liberals who defend them put the blame 100% on the system and nothing ever changes in the courts and on the streets with cops because too many people defend them regardless of what they do and refuse to believe that certain groups tend to get treated differently.
“White liberals” have done nothing at all to help anyone but themselves.
Nothing will be helped or improved until the conversation can shift from blame/denial to solutions.

It’s also not hard to believe a black guy shot a cop in a drug stop.

That's not a Conversation you guys on the Left want.
The SOLUTION is to stop paying people to have babies.
The SOLUTION is build more prisons.
The SOLUTION is to shame people who won't live by the rules of civilization.
When people start talking about solutions, you guys cry racism and put your fingers in your ears.
You don't WANT solutions, you want to feel good about yourselves for PRETENDING to care.

They were acquitted in federal court.

What did they plea guilty to?
They were allowed to maintain their innocence while pleaing, something that is NEVER done. Highly unusual.
They claimed at the time and now, that they were advised by counsel they would get the death penalty if convicted, and were given an extremely sweetheart deal and took the chance.
They got basically a slap on the wrist, incredibly light sentences that are also unheard of.

People like you are too stupid to identify the problem, so you can't identify a solution.
Everything that has gone wrong for the black community, including their disproportionately high violent crime rate (which is real, as much as you want to pretend it isn't), high incarceration rate, high poverty rate, etc... stems from their 80% out of wedlock birthrate.
Boys need stable male role models in their lives to show them how to become responsible men. Black boys largely don't have that, so they idolize rappers and local gangbangers. That is a serious cultural problem that can only be fixed from within, but most black people don't seem to care to change that.

either way you slice it you are saying people are poor because they are black and commit crimes more because they are black.

The SOLUTION is build more prisons.
The Land of the Free already has the highest incarceration rate in the civilized world, and you think a solution is to build MORE prisons?
The thing that people like you, who always want more laws and more prisons, never think about is that you're going to need a commensurate amount of more judges and lawyers to handle the load. We already don't have enough public defenders to guarantee Constitutionally protected rights.

Because they commit more crime

I didn't put it there.
Can you deny that in the last 50 years we've come a long way?
The judge is trying to go backwards, though.

Using this as a shield to avoid responding to the rest of my post is very on point. That doesn't surprise me.

AND we already have more laws than anyone can keep up with. We literally don't know how many laws exist in the United States, there are so many of them.
I agree. We need solutions to crime, but incarcerating more citizens isn't one I like.

So a judge can usurp the jury's verdict?
That's not exactly what the judge did. They used the confessions as aggravating factors in a related charge. I'm not sure how I feel about this one but he didn't sentence them for killing a cop. He sentenced them for being involved in a drug deal in which a cop was killed. That's some serious hair-splitting but he didn't just overrule the jury. Not exactly.

I agree that there was exactly zero reason to be insulting, but he has a point and it's the same thing I thought when I reads the response you originally replied to. You can't just shift from figuring out what the problem is to suggesting solutions, because the solution has to address the problem.
People suggesting "solutions" when we don't identify the problem is exactly why we get such intellectually brilliant plans like "Don't arrest anyone for theft, then no one gets hurt being arrested for theft."
To make progress your side is going to have to admit that there is a serious culture problem in black America and their side is going to have to admit that law enforcement does still operate from a bias against black people.
Neither side will admit either, however, so we stay right where we've been for decades on this.
