I just saw someone say he acquired the gun from someone on discord. Cox mentioned he posted questions about retrieving the gun on that same platform.

He had help. Maybe from a group online working to radicalize him and goad him into killing Kirk. It’ll be interesting to see how that materializes

I'm happy to say that I've managed to not be so chronically online to where I don't know what that means.

Do yall think he was aiming for the head and the bullet dropped? No way he was aiming for the neck right?

Eh. Moving target… nervous shooter… improperly sighted rifle.

I wouldn’t overthink that

What kind of experience did he have sniping?

He probably shot with his dad, maybe hunting, maybe recreational.

I said, yesterday, I bet it was sighted in close (a 25 yd zero). As I remember, 25m zero is also 300m zero.

In between those distances, you don't get drop, you get climb. This, due to bullet trajectory vs where the sight is pointed.

with a 25m zero, you get impact about 2-3 inches above point of aim at the distance suggested for the shooting.
Meaning, if you aimed at the heart, the bullet would go higher, towards neck elevation.

You honesty think the average non-gun enthusiast knows that “bolt action” describes a type of rifle?

The average person who has studied American or European history would tend to have some idea, I think.

Ever been to a Civil War battlefield or museum and seen rifles on display? Or read books? Or watched documentaries on the TV? Or seen toy guns that boys played with before around 1990-something?

Anyone who has played COD ever should know what a bolt action is.

That was my first guess, but who knows. Guy was trying to make a statement on a famous target, I just assumed he was going for a headshot. But I'm not going to try to put myself into his mind too much.

I would be willing to bet a very large portion of the country has not.

That would be my guess. When you flinch you usually hit low not hight.

Only an idiot would aim for the neck. I don't know what he was aiming at.

I took some German friends to the shooting range. Neither had ever fired a rifle or handgun. We took my scoped 30-06 and one of them missed the entire target paper. I think he tried at least twice. The other hit the paper but way low and way left. Near the corner. All from a bench rest.

So IF he had never shot a gun before maybe he just sucks and only he knows where he was aiming... head or chest 99% was the target IMO.

He likely had a lot of practice.

I have very little experience and was hitting targets at 100 yards a month ago. These guns and scopes are crazy accurate.

Robinson opened his big mouth and blabbed to his friends and roommate on Discord about needing to retrieve a gun from a drop point. He mentioned the rifle was in a bush and how to identify it and where it was located.

Sounds to me like someone dropped the rifle off for him.

Yep. Assassination threads are always wild.

You realize how many people have never played an outdoor sport and have no idea how to estimate yardage. Or have never fired a gun or even looked at one, and think we're talking about something only a trained expert could do.

ETA: and we're talking a cop's son from Utah who likely grew up shooting and hunting with his dad.

Someone online reported that Robinson acquired the gun from an acquaintance on Discord. Has anyone else heard this? Then went back to Discord to talk retrieval.

If true, we don’t have a lone wolf.

Not a cop’s son.
