Correction: 6, 2 pilots KIA. 2 A-10's lost to AAA, which will always be a danger because of the low level missions. All the other Air Force planes are too fragile for that mission.

The stingers we sent into Afghanistan to take out the Russian helicopters, were nightmares for the Russians. This could be a problem or a headache for the US.
Taking out an A-10 with a shoulder fired would be a heck of a shot considering how tough that thing is.

No one is going to question US military superiority or tactical advantage.
The problem is I’m not exactly sure what a long term strategic win looks like here.
You need the regime to collapse. Then you need to make sure the power vacuum is filled by a less problematic regime, rather than a more hardline/problematic regime.
In the meantime Iran is losing control of proxy militias which are going rogue, Israel is expanding territory, Russia’s getting rich, NATO is justifiably aggravated, Europe is probably still pissed about JCPOA, and Iran hasn’t nuked anyone.

That's looking less likely than it was a couple of weeks ago. Pulling it off without boots on the ground lowers the odds further. It can still happen but I wouldn't put a lot of money on it given the messaging I've seen.
