Yes, folks, instead of George Washington or Thomas Edison or Abe Lincoln, schools are now making kids read and learn and lionize a communist anti-American Mexican and a known atheist scientist who said humanity was basically a virus, just waiting to anihalate itself.
Since were being uncharitable...
Maybe they should have them read the New Testament, which basically says humans are so horrible that simply being born they deserve to burn in fire for all eternity. Yea yea, I know it's more complicated than that but I'm not after truth I just want my side to win regardless.

So ya got nothing. Compelling argument there!

Not much more complicated... And if you read the headlines posted here on a daily basis and disagree, you're an idiot.

What do the voices in your head tell you my conspiracy theories are?

I agree! The teachers unions only survive by perpetuating ignorance.

I know sarcasm is hard to detect online but damn...

Those are two pretty important people totally appropriate for a book report. Unless it was actually “instead of” George Washington and the like but that seems unlikely. You sound like a snowflake.
You sound like a fricking alter pulling shite out of your arse.

Wouldn’t happen. They’d turn in a report of someone else after a call from me to the principle

"That wasn't sarcasm/sarcasm."

your kid is going to be worshiping satan and sucking dick in no time. probably too late to do anything about, tbh

There are many many MANY more fundamental characters a nine-year-old should be studying before those two. They aren't even in the top 10,000, so odd they'd reach them for book reports by age 9.

This is a silly melt. Both those guys had an impact on society and history and are proper subjects for study. Even the bad has to be studied

Oh no! A KNOWN atheist?!?
You just complained about a report on Stephen Hawking...this board.

Ivy League schools are borderline child abuse. If you have a good state school pick that one.

I intentionally made students write about controversial subjects when I was teaching. I've assigned topics on the KKK, Joseph Kony, Lenin, etc. A report isn't meant to glorify a person, but to show both good and bad things. But I wouldn't be in an uproar about Chavez or Hawking. They are pretty relevant to modern times.

My son is in the 11th grade and taking U.S. history. So far, most of what I've seen is material on labor relations, unions, strikes, etc. in the late 19th/early 20th centuries. He has to do a report this week on friggin' Eugene Debs.
I'm not arguing that any of that is not important to learn about, but I've asked him have you learned anything about the Revolutionary War? The Civil War? Lewis and Clark? Andrew Jackson? Reconstruction? Nope, not a damn thing. It's been a solid nine weeks on labor.
Thank God he was interested in the other stuff to have been reading and learning about that on his own since he was ten years old.

11th Grade US History picks up at the end of Reconstruction. The time period is 1877-about 2010. They cover that other stuff in the 8th Grade and in High School World History. He'll soon be covering World War I, The Roaring 20's, the Great Depression, World War II, and the Cold War.

There are strong pockets of conservatism at many of them. We toured Columbia and were really surprised. For example, Redeemer Presbyterian (Tim Keller's church) is close to their campus, and has a huge influence at Columbia. We spoke to students and they said that the vast majority of students at Columbia were there to study and excel. Things like the "Mattress Girl" situation are only supported by a couple dozen radicals, but most of them work at the student newspaper that no one reads. Columbia doesnt have classes on Friday because they encourage students to work - and most students work at evil capitalist Wall Street firms.
We have a family friend whose daughter went to Yale. Her opinion is that the majority of students are conservative, but they are silent.

When and why did this change and why is it so different from AP?
