infection is an endpoint, hospitalization is another, death is yet another. Relative risk reductions for vaxxed for all. If you want to dunk on the vaccine as overhyped, go for it, but a lot of this is because R0 went up considerably (and CDC doesn't have anything to do with that unless you want to get all CDC-bioweapon on us )

Unfortunately.

And a lot of people thought they already had Covid because we played up Asymptomatic spread so much. Long story short, if you kinda think you had Covid, you almost certainly didn’t.

Mortality may be 1% or even slightly higher.

Was talking with someone else about this earlier.

Even if you pretend vaccines have a 0.0% efficacy rate or the only people vaccinated are people who also got covid, 120m natural infections would slow down transmission considerably.

The rate of asymptomatic infection has been grossly overestimated.

Flip side to this is covid is probably more lethal than we’ve been guessing, too.

As of July, 2/3 of Indians are covid antibody positive. That's about 800 million cases.

I thought his point that we're approaching vax levels that we were supposed to be getting herd protection (yet obviously we're not), thus the CDC are doo-doo-heads.

Maybe, but I took it as cumulative. Half the country fully vaccinated. Assume a conservative 60% efficacy rate for that group, so like 80m immune.

120m assumed infections.

Even with cross over between vaccinating people who’ve had covid, we should have 150m+ immune.

COVID is not spreading as if every other potential host is a dead end. Therefore, the 120m “cases” is likely bullshite.

You can't get herd immunity with a leaky vax. Which begs the question, how do you get rid of it?

I don't think 120 million Americans have had COVID. The rest of the numbers seem correct?

Don't know about doo-doo-heads, but they are liars who have been caught manipulating data to fit a narrative.

They haven’t, but the CDC seems to think so.

Where do these numbers come from? I simple Google search shows 62.4% and 53.0%.

You probably don't. It's likely to become an endemic disease to which we'll all be exposed many times. Mucosal immunity (and dealing with epistemic/trust issues of course) is probably the key to cutting down on transmission considerably (as with an intranasal vaccine should one work), but we're probably stuck with it. Endemic diseases don't usually stay as deadly over time (for a silver lining).

This is an example of classic leftist reductionism...get vaccinated and you're immune....get vaccinated and you won't spread the virus and hardly get sick...get the vaccine and you'll be guaranteed to not spend a day in the hospital...get the vaccine and you won't die........and so on...

The other issue here is what is the mass vaccination program doing to the populations ability to obtain natural immunity? There is a school of thought that a vacinated individual who catches It doesn't develop the robust natural immunity that an unvaxed individual does. Natural immunity is more powerful, per the latest studies.

So, in a world without the vax, the population might reach a herd immunity. But in a world where two thirds of immunity comes from the inferior vax, it might never be reached.
