Georgia law enforcement officials thought they were raiding an illegal food manufacturing plant before discovering $22.5 million in marijuana plants last week, authorities said Tuesday.

Four Chinese citizens were arrested in connection with an illegal marijuana growing facility in Pierce County. The suspects, identified as Zhu Sheng Bing, Jinpeng Ma, Chenhui Shu and Wei Sheng Deng, were taken into custody.

They each face a charge of felony possession of marijuana. Additional trafficking charges are expected, authorities said.

"The agriculture industry is not immune to criminal activity," Tyler Harper, Georgia's Agriculture Commissioner, said at a news conference to announce the bust. "I say all the time, just like water takes the easiest path, so does criminal activity from time to time."

Deng has been detained by U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE), according to his arrest booking report. The other three were in the U.S. legally, authorities said.

They are all being held without bail.

The investigation into an alleged rural food manufacturing facility was launched four weeks ago, Harper said. People at the facility allegedly told an undercover law enforcement officer they were growing an "edible food product," Pierce County Sheriff Ramsey Bennett said.

I don't think there is a building on planet Earth big enough to hold 22.5 million in marijuana plants

Wow ... Georgia is taking a beating ... first it was corrupt voting in the urban counties in the 2020 election with a corrupt secretary of state, there was the Stacey Abram fiasco, then there was the Warnock (s/p) embarrassment and scandal, then the Willis mistake to bring politically motivated bogus charges against Trump and his affiliates, then the scandal of Wade Willis affair, then the sad Riley murder by the illegal, then the news of he and his brother being community turds and failure of the police to arrest them after the October shoplifting incident, then the Bradley testimony at the Willis Wade hearing, now this marijuana story. Oh, and of course that embarrassment of a press conference from the Athens mayor. He made Athens look worse than Fulton County.

because they take one plant worth around $2000 at the most, and then they lie to say its really worth $50k

if they say its worth $22.5m then it was most likely just about $225k worth

Took those awful criminals off the streets.

Let’s be real. The only reasons they got arrested was the incompetence of the investigation and the feds not even knowing they were growing weed and then most of all, they weren’t getting their share of the money. Plain. And. Simple. Otherwise, no one would have cared.

This whole “war on weed” is dead and tired. It’s a broken record at this point, but move on.

Why would they not set up the operation where it was legal and just transport the pot to Georgia.

Criminals definitely don’t fund weed operations like this to finance other criminal activities.

Go ahead illegal grow people. Just keep growing.

Perhaps, I don’t know, they are part of a criminal enterprise and can’t get the proper authority to legally grow anywhere….

Maybe
