COVID parties ... are they an actual thing?

I’ve heard of several being held (amongst teens and college kids) in my community, but it’s tough to know what’s real and what isn’t.

The idea is that you WANT to become infected.
Allegedly, college students have been holding COVID parties in which attendees pay an entry fee, someone who is COVID+ attends the party, and the first person who becomes infected wins the collected money.

I’m not sure if that’s how this SATX party went down ( KHOU), but apparently it ended poorly for one attendee.
quote:

”Just before the patient died, they looked at their nurse and said, 'I think I made a mistake. I thought this was a hoax, but it's not,'" Appleby said.

Appleby said several of their critically ill coronavirus patients are in their twenties and thirties. It's a growing trend seen across San Antonio.

quote:

During Friday night's briefing, Mayor Ron Nirenberg said young adults made up 25% of positive cases in Bexar County.

"We're in a period of very high community transmission," Nirenberg said. "If you're having a party with people who aren't part of your social circle in your household, it has the potential to be a COVID party whether you like it or not."

Whether it is true or not, the statement above sounds suspiciously the same as a line from Days of Our Lives or perhaps better: General Hospital.

Cut to next scene. The nurse, after witnessing the statement, finds the doctor that represents her forbidden love. She drags him to a utility closet and pegs him with a broken mop handle. They both cry out in ecstasy in fulfilling their secret desires as they march together towards a certain Covid death. Make the most of our last days on earth people.

Sounds like a movie script...or fear peddling.

Hey! Anyone can be morbidly obese with a BMI in the 60's, diabetic, with a bad heart, and still be healthy!

Predators target the old and weak, and the young and stupid.

Nothing new here. I remember when Hurricane Camille washed a whole group of hippies straight from a hurricane party to the Gates of Heaven.

Oh, bye the bye. What did you decide to do with your carry choice?

I think its possible the entire story is fabricated from top to bottom. If a journalist thinks lying and fabricating is "for the greater good" they'll absolutely do it. This is why they keep doing it.

I can’t find anything (not even a name), though Hispanics are affected more than white people.
Obviously SATX is a majority Hispanic city.

This ABC News video mentions it briefly but provides few details beyond what’s in the original article: ABC News

I'm finding it strangely coincidental that Scientology was founded by a prolific science fiction writer.

very suspicious that the only infor we are given is the age; not even a name?

I'd have to see more than that, as I don't trust the media
