Oh, I knew what you were implying, because a lot of you folks will see a complicated plot in the most simple shite. Years ago, My Dad was robbed and murdered. He was the kind of guy that was home at 5:30 every evening and stayed there, unless we went to an auction. He didn't gamble, or drink. By the time the public got finished with their speculation and gossip, he was a mobster killed over a big drug shipment and something to do with a prostitution ring, with the Dewitt Dawson Gang and the Memphis Mob.

The Son talked to his Dad, he told him some stuff, we already know this. It may have just been descriptions, it may have been names. The Dad gave that info to the police. The police probably told him to keep it to himself, that's what they usually do.

After reading this far in the thread I am leaning to that scenario as well.
Doesn't sound like a likely spot for a drug shipment = not as remote as first thought, and not connected to any waterway to the gulf. Also seems like a less remote place than first thought.
Was only the first guy beaten/tortured??

What I have read, said that all of them had some bruising, but that's what happens in a fight.
I have seen close up video of the front of the first guys truck. He had a redneck sticker on his windshield, he had a confederate flag folded up, laying on his dash, and I'm just guessing, but I think he probably had more Rebel Flag stuff stuck on his back bumper, tool box etc.. That's a person's right, to express themselves, people can do that, but in the current climate, in this country, you have to realize that it may make some people very mad, and you best be ready to defend yourself. He obviously wasn't. No way I can know if that's what caused the whole deal, but some things that The Sheriff said, make me think it might have been something like that.
Another possible thing, since it was Friday night, the guy had probably just been paid, and somebody saw him at the convenience store alone, with a pocket full of money, buying some beer and chicken livers, follow him down to the lake to rob him.

It is not complicated, one must suspend all reason to take this story at face value.
Lets see, I just got beaten and shot, my friends are shot but lets call dad and not 911, Dad then decides nah , I will deal with this and does not call 911 for help but decides to drive to the crime scene himself. He then arrives where there is at least one cell phone and likely 2 more and decides to leave his dying son and drive to a gas station and call 911 and pick up a random teenage chick to help?

Man, you keep trying to insist that the guy didn't call 911, he did, but he called his Dad first. Exactly what I would have done. You obviously refuse to accept, that 911 wants to keep the caller on the phone in an emergency. They always do that, they want to keep them talking and maybe keep them from going into shock. Dad wasn't prepared for the whole situation, most people aren't, he's in shock himself, and on Friday night at 10pm, he might even be a bit drunk.
It could end up being some kind of big drug deal shite, but I have my doubts about that, it's too much of a high traffic type place. A road like that on Friday night, people are coming through there all night, trying to find a place to frick their GFs, smoke some weed whatever.

Thanx. It's something that changes your life forever, and the frustrations involved are rough. You just keep going. You figure out pretty fast though, that people just make shite up in their heads, and say all kinds of stuff.

Sorry for your loss. People idly speculating about what happened must take its toll on your loved ones. Gossipers and conspiracy theorists don't always understand that their words can hurt people that they are talking about. Good reminder for all of us to think twice before speculating sometimes.

Thanx. As far as the speculating went, it never bothered me, because I knew what stupid shite it was, and I realized, people would rather believe some crazy crap like they saw on TV, than to believe that criminals live all around them, and it might be their trusted neighbor.

I lived in a small town where gossip was the local entertainment, like a spectator sport. I tried to lay low to avoid it, and learned this lesson... if they don't know something about you, they'll just make it up.

The son had already called 911 after calling his dad. I think the son's phone was already online with 911.
Why do some of yall think a random person wouldn't want to help? Projection of what you would do???

We lived in a small town, and everyone knew My Dad, they knew him too well, and whoever killed him, was someone that he knew and trusted. How the robbery went down, he was coming back from picking up the money from some of his store locations, to deposit in the bank. People saw his car stopped on the side of the highway, with another vehicle, like he had stopped to help them, but there were several different stories about what the other vehicle looked like.
Here is the thing about that, the people that he knew and would have stopped for, every one of our friends and neighbors, knew the same people. It was somebody that we all knew and talked to, on a regular basis. People have a hard time accepting that there are those kinds of people living in our midst. That would rob and kill you, if you have something that they want, and they can find an opportunity to do it, then can go acting like nothing happened. People would rather believe in some monster from some other place.

It happened near Madison, Alabama, 3 hours from Memphis back then. The Memphis mob shite was just ridiculous stuff that people made up and gossiped about, because they read about that kind of stuff in the newspaper.
Whoever did the robbery was a local person that my Dad knew. That's the only way he would have stopped his car. He had already picked up all the money, and his next stop would have been the bank, but he stopped to help somebody.
