Horrible. Thanks for reply. My mother’s stepdad got his head blown off in Panola County Ms in 1966. His brother, who the killer was after, survived a gunshot to head but some how survived. He looked like a monster after being shot. Lost vision in both eyes.

Yeah, I think that road down by the lake just turns off of U.S.98, goes a couple of miles, and reconnects with 98. It's a far cry, from what I consider backwoods.

It is pretty remote, but it is far from as far in the woods as you can go. The area is surrounded by orange fields. The road is built up from red clay and dirt. The sheriff did say that it was a heinous as any murder scene he has ever seen.
The CBS story said that the two drove up as the one was being beaten. I did not hear the sheriff say that either.
On FB, there is an old aunt saying that they all know who did it. She stated that the law better find them before the family does.

They didn't call for a reason otherwise the dad calls for help immediately with his son dying.
Dad left it on purpose which gave him an out for not calling.
Something they didn't want the cops to see so much so it may have cost him his life.
As a US Marshal and LEO, this was my first thought when reading about the father's actions.
Son had some drugs on him (that he had potentially just purchased) and called dad to come dispose of them before police and EMS arrived. Dad scoops up all illegal items with the guise of "going to the convenience store to call 911" and disposes of everything along the way.
Otherwise any father stays with his son in his dying moments, to both try to save him or at least be there for him as he goes. The son had already called 911 and the father was aware of that, there was no other logical reason to run to the store and make an additional call.
If I were the LEO in the area, (and there's a slim chance I could be soon, as a Marshal in FL) I would question dad about where he may have tossed these items and check up and down his route to the store and the area really well. Not to taint the death of the son and his friends, but for potential clues as to what happened.
Before reading any further - this sounds an awful lot like a drug related murder. Either a purchase gone bad, a robbery, or son owed someone money and called to buy more before paying his previous debt. Dealer says "okay, I'll meet you out there" and ambushes the son for his money, and has to mop up the two witnesses.

The spot they were killed was a regular fishing spot of theirs. It was secluded. If you’ve just taken the time to murder 3 people in a secluded spot over a drug deal, wouldn’t you take the few extra seconds to also grab the drugs? And if you’ve just watched your 2 friends die, and are dying yourself, would your first concern be for your dad to hide your drugs?

It was an odd statement by the sheriff if the crime scene was Lake Streety Road (marker) as described. It's a dirt road. But looks like more pasture than forest.

And it’s also not that isolated. It’s less than a half mile off the highway. You have to imagine this all went down just to the left of the pin where that tiny cove comes in.

Dad involved in the killing of his son would be about the last thing a sane person would imagine here. Who knows what happened but that psycho theory is DOA with 99.9% of parents.

Not necessarily. Killer(s) just murdered three people, they don't want ANY reason for police to suspect them. This includes making a "clean" getaway, without weapons or drugs on them in case they do get stopped by police. It at least leaves a little doubt, whereas a potentially bloody baggie of meth or coke raises some eyebrows.

We see/hear it all the time with victims and officers wounded in the line of duty - most never believe they're actually going to die. They hold on to hope until they can't anymore, and at that point they're gone. It's just something the mind naturally does in some cases - gives you a belief that you'll make it.
I'm not saying my post is 100% what happened and it still leaves a lot of holes and questions; just basing it on my experience in law enforcement. My big hangup is the dad leaving the dying son, which is something I can't see myself doing in any circumstance. There either had to be extenuating circumstances or dad was woefully unprepared for the emotional trauma.

I can see him rolling up and losing his mind when he sees his son like that. If he was thinking rationally of course he’d try to get him in the truck and take him to the hospital. But he’s a fat, out of shape old man who probably couldn’t lift his lifeless son into the truck. He didn’t want to just sit there and watch his son die so he went to get any kind of help he could.
