Ah yes, I, too, believe a Dollar General carries the same divine mandate as a temple. Those two things are precisely the same.

Live oaks have a short root system. After 200 years, surprised it’s still standing. Life span on that IIRC is 60-70 years.

Is that where the name Dollar Tree came from? People should be more concerned about liberals chopping off adolescent's dicks which will not grow back. You can always plant another oak tree. It isn't like there is a shortage of them in the south.

Did you read the passage in Joshua where a tribe was told to clear a forest to make room for living there (which would have also included farming and trading)?

Point being, there is no evidence that I’m aware of that any trees are sacred in the Bible, except for the tree of life. Creation was given to man to subdue it and rule over it. A few hundred year old tree has no moral value to it, only sentimental value to some.

I can’t reconcile this in my mind.

‘Here’s a wonderful elegant creation. Feel free to destroy as much of it as you want with Horton homes’

Why create the passenger pigeon and then sit idly by and let man wipe them out?

Keep the tree and sell it to Dollar Tree. They incorporate the tree into their layout.

Wow, I changed my mind. I wasn't aware that live oaks like the two in my front yard would go extinct if this old one gets cut down. Thanks.

The passage about God’s command to clear land for Israel’s survival in the Promised Land?

Not sure how a passage about necessity for survival of a people and fulfillment of a covenant applies to a Dollar General.

Odd take, honestly, even for you.

Forge documents stating it was called the Emancipation tree in the 1800’s and that George Floyd himself once climbed that tree trying to get away from ICE..

You will have a dozen white ladies chaining themselves to it within the hour

Man is the pinnacle of God’s creation. He sent His only begotten son to die for us. We are of immense value, much more than the trees and birds and other animals, and God has given all creation for us to enjoy and to use for our benefit and His glory.

Let’s take a step back, though. What is being discussed is a 200 year old tree. What gives the tree such value that it should not be cut down? It seems like age alone that’s causing the uproar. What is the cutoff for cutting down trees for human development? 100 years? 50 years? 25 years? Also what is the reason for that cutoff? Is there one, or is it just an arbitrary number?

It seems to me that the reason that so many are up in arms is that people are sentimental and want to preserve the past for its own sake. While there is nothing inherently wrong with that, if that is the reason, it doesn’t seem like a good enough reason to condemn the biblical concept of clearing land for development. Especially since it seems there is no specific historical event associated with the tree.

I approach moral issues from the objective standard of God’s holy and infallible word. If you can convince me that the Bible supports such a moral imperative, I’ll change my mind.

I find your attempt to reduce this to a question of whether the bible explicitly tells you whether the action is sinful or not is retarded. There is no explicit biblical instruction to wish your children a happy birthday. It's just a modern cultural norm. There is no biblical instruction for your parents to, without notice, give away your prized collection of baseball cards that they paid for. There is no biblical instruction to buy your children Christmas presents. Just a modern cultural norm. Nothing from God's holy and infallible word requires that anyone abstain from those activities.

You are still a lame person if you do any of that but you reductively claim that nothing in the bible says you shouldn't do it. Jesus's teachings showed he had great compassion for human emotions. He understood that we have attachments and love for people, experiences and rituals that created happy memories for us Many of which revolved around places like the home you grew up in or a tree. Jesus would not react to people upset by someone buying and bulldozing their family home by saying "nothing sinful about this. It's just some wood put together with nails.".

I would advocate the banning of building any more new dollar generals anywhere.

I went into one(1) once and I refuse to go into another ever again.

Those things are sub par.

Ummm.. please show me in the bible the concept of "clear everything that is on land and develop it." That doesn't seem to square with being a good steward of the land.

I say see how many ricks of firewood one can get out of that one tree.

Come winter, they can stay warm by the fire sipping hot cocoa from Dollar General
