Interesting 32 years we never bypassed customs. Hell if a destination base had no customs we would land in Baltimore or Langley just to clear customs prior to heading to final destination. Always hated spending the night in Baltimore.

My son is at Bragg. The morale there, in the entire military, is not great. Daughter’s in the AF, apparently not any better. Zero confidence in leadership and incoming recruits leave a little to be desired.

I'm seriously trying not to be a dick, but there's no reason to honeypot a bunch of SF dudes to fly shite from overseas when you can just mule it across the Mexican border with great success.

They've "questioned" more people than are in a ODA, there are no USAF crew chiefs mentioned, etc. It smells if one is trying to paint an ODA or Green Berets. The lack of USAF personnel in the indictment is particularly telling, since they take responsibility of the load.

But we're all just barracks lawyers with what the Fayettenam Observer reported.

Not that you should need to tell him, but tell him to take confidence in everyone else in his aquad/platoon/company will get themselves killed for him, and realize the external stuff will just go away eventually. It's the absolute best prize he's got in his life, including over non military family. 82nd is a cult, in the best way someone could be a cult, I think.

Jocko Podcast. Turn him onto it. It's super hard before dudes become an adult (around about first divorce time) to convince them how they should be doing things and responding to people and dealing with things. Jocko and his guest will help. Mike Ritland, too. Standout SEAL.

All true but at 18 or 19, living in the barracks at Bragg really does suck.

Even a nasty hitch in Iraq or Afghanistan was better than being at Bragg and doing PT 5 days a week.

If you think the 82nd (former Pink Panther) is bad the 173rd is the 82nd on crack.

I believe I have only seen articles of a local dealer busted with fentanyl-on or near Bragg.

The scuttlebutt rumors of sex trafficking- were reported by yahoonews or whoever -aggregated in the MSM- reading military community message boards. LINK

‘These Kids Are Dying’ — Inside the Overdose Crisis Sweeping Fort Bragg

I now recall thinking that some of the drug busts surrounding Bragg were cartel members (led by the cartel) infiltrated that joined the US military? Just a guess...

Fort Bragg master sergeant charged with trafficking cocaine

Another story is a Fort Bragg MP on duty busted dealing drugs.

Houston, we have a problem.

ETA: At what point is this considered a deliberate attack- w/o one shot fired via the cartel & China?

quote:

Other Fort Bragg soldiers who died of an overdose with no public notice in 2020 and 2021 include Spc. Christhiam Gonzalez-Pineda, a helicopter repairman originally from Honduras who died from the acute effects of unspecified “illegal substances,” per his casualty report; Pfc. Anthony Savala, an infantryman from California who died from a cocktail of Benadryl, benzodiazepines, and fentanyl; Spc. Zachary Bracken, a Green Beret candidate from Maryland who died from a combination of alcohol and fentanyl; Sgt. 1st Class Michael Tardie, an infantryman from Arizona who died from the same mixture; Sgt. David Mazzullo, a signals-intelligence analyst from New York who died from an overdose of heroin and fentanyl; and Spc. Matthew Meadows, a parachute rigger from Texas who died from fentanyl alone. None of these deaths were made public.

I was in my early early 20s when I was there and yes it did suck. What's funny is the Smoke Bomb Hill barracks where I lived were in the news lately for deteriorating conditions. Again, some things never change.

I’m close enough to visit somewhat regularly. Morale is down but its amazing to watch these young men rally. They were here for Trump and they know what a cluster they have now, but they are ready for war at moments notice. As a Sargent put it, “72 hours and anywhere in the world.”

There may be concerning issues in the military. But these kind of busts have been happening since I can remember.

No more scrutiny than after saying "no brass no ammo Sergeant".

As several have eluded to one of the big issues with drugs, alcohol, and morale at Bragg is being in Fayettenam. Not a lot besides strip clubs and tattoo parlors, since NC has ABC stores there were fewer of them close to base but it is still a whole lot of nothing. The talent pool for prospective dependapotomuses was small (the pool not the depedapotomuses themselves). The list of off-limits areas was seemingly half the town. While it is true with most bases almost all my disciplinary issues with the enlisted troops was alcohol or drug related and that was ~30 years ago.

The other thing is people rarely every leave Bragg, there are just very limited opportunities for a PCS if you are in the 82nd or other permanent units like the D-boys at Bragg. You know you are stuck in the shithole outside of schools and deployments almost all are a significant upgrade in living conditions especially for junior enlisted. I think every few people outside of prior military or parents of have any real insight in to the living situation for most of the junior enlisted.

It could have been a lot worse for me, I was a Devil but I could have been one of those Grady lovin' Pink Panthers. LB7
