"Totaling" a federal monument deserves 10 years. Some spray paint that can be removed doesn't.

Yeah even though when they're caught in the act they have already got their own rope, or acid, power tools to cut with.

Just seems wasteful to use tax dollars when we have the equipment to insure they never have the ability to do it again and to immediately impose sentence. Cut a statue head off = get your own cutoff with the same tool.

For the treasonous assholes I’ve been watching on TV the past few weeks, it should be 20.

Jason Charter is 25. Not sure about you but by the time I was 25 I was a man and knew better than to frick my life up by breaking a Federal law that would get me 10 years.

National monument = federal property.

Destroying it "in protest" out of pure anger is, frankly, immature and petulant.

It's calculated and deliberate, and therefore I feel like 10 years is reasonable so long as it's obvious that it was intentional. It would be three "in" and 7 on paper anyway.

Sorry I don’t agree with that

I don’t believe in property destruction, but hell, there are murderers and rapists that don’t get 10 years

You think rapists and murderers should only get 10 years?

I'd be for 5 years with mandatory American History lessons in prison.

You're a commie. GTFO!

I do appreciate the anti-Americans identifying themselves, though.

The issue is, it isn't just vandalizing a piece of property, it's a political statement in opposition to the country. Not to Trump, but the actual country, and the laws and principles on which it was founded.

If acting out in this way means that much to someone, then they should be willing to take the risk of jailtime. Opposing governments and attempting to overthrow them usually results in far harsher penalties than that. You get shot a lot of the time.
