Should the Dems win control of the House in VA, they'll redistrict for 2020 (supposed to happen anyway) and will draw the lines for themselves. I don't like gerrymandering but it's what will happen. And that state will go blue for a bunch of cycles.
It's far from meaningless. You should be familiar with this tactic as well, as it's how the R's gained supermajorities in many state legislatures.

The house of delegates is a little more important. Gerrymandering, as I've said above, will keep that state blue for better or worse, and will go blue in future presidential elections.
