Once Kobe retires after next year they are going to be a COMPELTELY different team in a couple years.
Trade Pau
Dwight signs somewhere else after this season
Drop Metta
Steve Nash Retires
all those other no bodies will get rearranged as well

I expect some huge changes. The luxury tax is going to kill them as it is.
They have a mess on their hands

Kobe retires and they somehow draft trade for Wiggins.
He becomes the new LA superstar.
Or they get Kyrie Irving.

I wish that mess would last about 2 decades.
But it won't. Some piece of shite idiot team will trade them 3 superstars for a pack of juicy fruit.

doesn't matter. The Lakers will be done for a while.
the not so fast Chris Paul deal will haunt them for a few years. He could've been their centerpiece after Kobe.

I don't care how big of a pussy he's been this year, I want Atlanta to sign Dwight

The Lakers are a textbook example of how NOT to build a team. Horrible contracts, horrible/non-existent drafting, NO bench. They dug their own grave here.

As much as I dislike LeBron, I'd love it if he came to the Lakers. I definitely agree that they haven't drafted anyone good in as long as I can remember, that just isn't how they build their team. I wouldn't say their contracts are that horrible since most of the "bad" contracts (Pau and MWP) were on the team when they won a championship.

Also, saw a stat yesterday that the Lakers have only missed the playoffs 5 times in their existence. That is insane.

Yeah for those trashing the lakers for not knowing how to build a team, they seem to always win

This current incarnation is a disaster, and they are not exactly poised to succeed in the near future due to a lack of developing younger players and drafting.

Do they currently have a first round draft pick for 2013?
Posted on 4/9/13 at 4:13 pm to REG861
They've always built through trades and free agency. They will have a ton of available cap space if they are smart about who they resign, how long they resign them, and for how much money, between now and Kobe retiring. I could see them keeping Dwight and getting some huge name in free agency like Lebron, but thats just me being hopeful.

If they don't re-sign Dwight, the post-Kobe Lakers will look a lot like the post-Magic Lakers before they got Shaq.

I doubt LeBron has plans to leave what is about to become a Dynasty, but are any decent PGs set for FA other than Paul that they could potentially get and let grow behind Nash? Because I don't think Blake is their future.

Kind of hard to depend on the draft when you are drafting at the end of the 1st round every year.
The last time the Lakers had a Top 10 draft pick, they drafted Andrew Bynum.
In fact, in the last 30 years, the Lakers have had a grand total of THREE Top 10 picks.
They drafted Bynum, Eddie Jones, and James Worthy with those 3 picks. Not a bad track record
