this may be the most enjoyable documentary i've ever seen. it is simply amazing on a variety of levels

it's a doc about a highly organized live action role play (LARP) game around Baltimore.

basically, the first half sets up the background on why people play, the rules, who the different rulers of the various major countries are, etc. they have developed a really complex society and game and that alone is interesting

but the 2nd half devolves into epic nerd hissy fits. irl friendships are lost, social structures developing within the game are complained about, and a civil war breaks out (which leads to irl friendships being lost)

ETA: here is the 300+ page rule book

the doc really does showcase the personal/social aspects of LARPers

the best part to me is how they show people who got into Darkon to get away from being an outlier in normal life, but then a similar social structure ends up forming within Darkon and there is anger about it

like i am known to say, "life is high school"

You've been saying that for 3 years

If anyone has an hour to kill and this type of shite is funny to them, they need to watch Darkon.

It really is amazing that this large group of people have time to do this type of shite. Also, the person getting hit gets the ultimate say in whether he actually got hit. That sounds like some of that bullshite.

I watched this yesterday. Found myself really pulling for Banner. Nice doc but I preferred Monster Camp.

That doesn't suprise me. I'm a procrastinator. I'll put it in my queue. I gotta rewatch GOT season 1 after reading the 1st book.

Just finished watching this, not bad. I felt kind of bad for the Banner guy. Oh, and the fat guy who worked at Starbucks was pretty sweet. I want to hang out with that guy IRL.

This has been in my instant queue for a little while. I thought the part in Role Models was fun

his speech about not being in relationships b/c he wasn't ready yet was epic, just like how he spoke about having troubles talking to girls in public b/c, you know....(wait for it....he's going to say i'm 400 lbs...wait for it) b/c i'm a nerd

Caught it last night. Pretty interesting. What I came with away most is that Baltimore is depressing as shite. Loved the Starbucks guy. Why the hell was he crawling around? Him trying to get to that sheet of paper cracked me up and his flabbergasted speech about girls was SPOT on. Classic nerd move to roll his eyes and get all worked up about it. The leader of the realm was a dick and reminded me of Kim from Role Models. Maybe they based his character off of him. The dinner at Denny's was a nice touch. The stereotypes basically wrote themselves

shite got real, for sure

the saddest part of the movie is when the guy was watching that horrible king arthur movie at home. inexcusable movie selection
