CHARACTER LIMIT REACHED - READ ENTIRE THREAD FOR MORE IDEAS
-------------
Downtown: Lower Broadway Honky Tonks/Clubs/Restaurants

-- Downtown is cheese IMO (exception Flying Saucer), but I get it for the out of towners (ITNEVERRAINS)
-- It is a bit cheesy, and you can go to better clubs elsewhere. But then you don't see Tootsie's, The Ryman, etc... gotta spend at least a few hours on Broadway if you're from out of town. (DaGarun)

The Big Bang
-- Piano bar similar to Pat O's (jasonbohn9)

Paradise Park
-- Some of the best burgers in town (jasonbohn9)
-- Decorated in "redneck." One of my favorite honky-tonks. They sell Natural Light! College to post-college crowd. (DaGarun)

Robert's Western Wear
-- Only plays the traditional country music, mainly focusing on the 40s-60s. They play lots of Marty Robbins, Hank Sr., Gene Autry, Jimmie Rodgers, etc. I would definitely recommend checking it out when Brazilbilly is playing; very good old-time string band. They usually play twice a week. They do not play any newer country. (Slickback)
-- check out the Don Kelley Band. they have a guitar player(JD Simo) who is 25 years old and will blow you completely away. (Swanky)

Tootsie's
-- The most famous honky-tonk... lots of history here (DaGarun)

The Stage
-- Extremely crowded on Saturday nights, younger (eager) crowd (DaGarun)
-- I think the college aged and YP's would love The Stage on the Friday night before the game. Great band who plays a ton of current country hits that everybody knows. Plus its PACKED with extremely hot females. The band is Todd Sansom and Rebels Rage. (Swanky)

Wildhorse Saloon
-- Fun and family friendly (jasonbohn9)
-- Too "touristy" for my tastes (DaGarun)

Graham Central Station
-- Lots of LSU fans on Friday night, seven different bars inside (KevinD)
-- Graham is alright if you are 18...or a pedo. Graham is probably the only bar downtown that you don't have to be 21 to get into...so it's full of 18-20 year olds pretending to be awesome. (jasonbohn9)

3rd and Lindsley
-- 3rd and Lindsley is a real cool bar/grill with good music as well. Good mixture of the crowd. (Swanky)

Demo's Restaurant
-- Demo's restaurant downtown= Awesome (BayouBuster)

Ryman Auditorium
-- Home to the original Grand Ole Opry. Was moved to the newer, larger home in 1974. They have a museum and quick tours. Can also stand on the stage, take pictures, and pick the guitar. (Slickback)

------------------------------------------------

Other Bars/Restaurants/Misc

Sam's Sports Bar and Grill
-- Just past medical center on 21st in Hillsboro Village near campus (DaGarun)
-- Pretty good burgers and decent pizza (DaGarun)
-- NFL Network / Sunday ticket (DaGarun)
-- 21+ establishment, so smoking allowed. Pretty well ventilated, though. (DaGarun)
-- a block from my office, so somebody call me for lunch on Friday! (DaGarun)

Rotiers (Burgers)
-- Rotiers is great for burgers. Small, but delicious. And good fried pickles. (jasonbohn9)

Gold Rush
-- Gold Rush is another good bar right around Vandy. Decent food, good variety, plenty of TVs in the bar area. (jasonbohn9)

Melrose Pub
-- If you're college aged or just graduated, get up here on Thursday night... 2 for 1. (MusicCityBengal)

McCabe's Pub
-- on Murphy Rd in Sylvan Park. Family owned and run, really nice folks who love to talk sports. (MusicCityBengal)

Cafe Nona
-- The best upscale Italian in the city is across the street from McCabe's Pub, a very quiet neighborhood bistro vibe with absolutely amazing food. (MusicCityBengal)

Frougal McDougal's
-- if you're buying beer in bulk, or a keg, I suggest Frougal McDougal's, a beer/liquor warehouse off 8th Avenue downtown. (MusicCityBengal)
-- Something that took a little getting used to is you can't buy beer and wine/liquor in the same store, and grocery stores only carry beer. If you want wine/liquor, you have to go to the wine/liquor store. Sometimes the stores actually connect to one another, and you have to check out with your beer, then go next door and check out your liquor separately. It's effin silly... (DaGarun)

The Station Inn
-- If you want a true musical experience, go to The Station Inn in the Gulch (12th Avenue). It doesn't matter what night, it will be great. Some of the best newgrass/bluegrass in the world. (MusicCityBengal)

Rose Pepper's Cantina
-- The best Mexican in town is Rose Pepper's Cantina on Eastland Avenue in East Nashville. It's a hike from downtown and the Vandy area, though. (MusicCityBengal)

Flying Saucer
-- If you're a beer fanatic, we have a Flying Saucer (10th Avenue behind the Union Station Hotel), which is similar to the one in Memphis. (MusicCityBengal)

Yazoo Brewery and Pub
-- the local brew of note is YAZOO. They just moved their brewery and its pub into the Gulch area (12th South). Haven't been yet. (MusicCityBengal)

The Patterson House
-- A really unique bar experience, turn off your cell phone and put on some decent clothes, and go to The Patterson House. Modeled after the classic upscale speakeasies of the Prohibition Era. It has no sign (off Division in Midtown), so ask around. Go there for one cocktail (everything is served, created, etc., with traditional bartending methods). It's worth it. (MusicCityBengal)

Mafiaoza's
-- 27 and under will dig Mafiaoza's (ITNEVERRAINS)
-- I completely agree with the Maffiazos(sp?) comment above. It's awesome. (Swanky)

Pancake Pantry
-- Get there early, or prepare to wait! (DaGarun)
-- definitely awesome, but yes, get there early (jasonbohn9)
-- Pancake Pantry is fantastic, but if you go for breakfast you'd better go early! (ProfTiger)
-- You'll definitely stand in line for breakfast at the Pancake Pantry. (tiger81)
-- Absolutely! Like 8 a.m. at the latest early! (Jwodie)

Loveless Cafe
-- Great fried chicken (DaGarun)
-- Famous, and the brunch will blow you away (Jwodie)
-- Kinda out of the way, long cab ride (DaGarun)
-- alright, but not worth the drive IMHO (jasonbohn9)

Noshville Delicatessen
-- a great place for breakfast in the Vandy area (jasonbohn9)

Mall at Green Hills
-- Lots of new bars eateries, close to campus (JWodie)
-- green hills is alright if you are a hipster pompous douchebag(jasonbohn9)

Swett's Restaurant
-- Meat & 3 restaurant (1 meat, 3 sides ~$8)
-- Very good home cooking.. fried chicken, rotisserie, meatloaf, sweet potatoes, greens, etc... (DaGarun)
-- Not really convenient to campus area (DaGarun)

Sylvan Park Restaurant
-- Meat & 3 restaurant (1 meat, 3 sides ~$8)
-- Very good home cooking.. fried chicken, rotisserie, meatloaf, sweet potatoes, greens, etc... (DaGarun)
-- Closer to campus than Swett's, but more crowded usually. (DaGarun)

Prince's Hot Chicken
-- I find this gratuitously hot, otherwise... meh. Locals rave, and it's famous, but I guess I just don't get it. I'll take Popeye's (DaGarun)

Brick's Cafe
-- 3 locations in the area and while they may not look like anything special from the outside, they have awesome food...especially their brick oven pizza. The owner who started them is an LSU fan too (am4titansandlsu)

------------------------------------------------

Lodging

Hampton Inn on Elliston
-- Cheaper than Holiday Inn Vanderbilt or Marriot Vanderbilt, and only a few extra blocks from the stadium (MusicCityBengal)

Gonna take some time to build up the list... that's why I started it now. I'll certainly bump it when the date approaches.

Here's a couple suggestions -

If you're college aged or just graduated, get up here on Thursday night and go to the Melrose Pub 2 for 1.

On Friday night, if you're 20-26ish, go to the Midtown cluster of bars - The Red Door, Broadway Brewhouse Midtown, Loser's. You'll then likely end up on Demonbreum, with a strip of bars (Dan McGuiness, Tin Roof, Closing Bell) I hate but most people love.

A great family place to eat that's local (and really good, no matter what you order) is McCabe's Pub on Murphy Rd in Sylvan Park. Family owned and run, really nice folks who love to talk sports.

The best upscale Italian in the city is across the street at Cafe Nona, a very quiet neighborhood bistro vibe with absolutely amazing food.

Also, one thing missing from your list - if you're buying beer in bulk, or a keg, I suggest Frougal McDougal's, a beer/liquor warehouse off 8th Avenue downtown.

If you want a true musical experience, go to The Station Inn in the Gulch (12th Avenue). It doesn't matter what night, it will be great. Some of the best newgrass/bluegrass in the world.

The best Mexican in town is Rose Pepper's Cantina on Eastland Avenue in East Nashville. It's a hike from downtown and the Vandy area, though.

If you're a beer fanatic, we have a Flying Saucer (10th Avenue behind the Union Station Hotel), which is similar to the one in Memphis. Another solid beer destination is 12th South Taproom, (12th Ave S).

Also, the local brew of note is YAZOO. They just moved their brewery and its pub into the Gulch area (12th South). Haven't been yet.

If you want a really, really unique bar experience, turn off your cell phone and put on some decent clothes, and go to The Patterson House. It's modeled after the classic upscale speakeasies of the Prohibition Era. It has no sign (off Division in Midtown), so ask around. Go there for one cocktail (everything is served, created, etc., with traditional bartending methods). It's worth it.

Good stuff - it would be great if we had a "sticky" on a thread like this for every game.

I'm headed up on Thursday - which is when the Saints play Vikings. I guess Sam's is the best place to watch it?

27 and under will dig Mafiaoza's. Red bar is solid late night also. CABANA is pretty decent dining/bar. Cool atmosphere. Downtown is cheese IMO (exception Flying Saucer), but I get it for the out of towners. Agree on the Pancake Pantry, Sams, Rose Peppers is in East Nash, area where trendy ppl live close to the ghetto for street cred. If youre gonna do Dan McGuiness, go to Cool Springs, it'll be less crowded, theres also Tin Roof across street, you can avoid DT Nash. If youre a history dork downtown Franklin and Carnton/Carter plantation are $, Country Music Hall of Fame is legit as well.

Roberts Western World
On Broadway, Robert's only plays the traditional country music, mainly focusing on the 40s-60s. They play lots of Marty Robbins, Hank Sr., Gene Autry, Jimmie Rodgers, etc. I would definitely recommend checking it out when Brazilbilly is playing; very good old-time string band. They usually play twice a week. They do not play any newer country.

Second Fiddle
Also on Broadway, around the other bars. Only one you are allowed to smoke in I believe.

Legends Corner
Also on Broadway. They usually play more of the newer country, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

Opryland
Home of the Gaylord Opryland Hotel, The Grand Ole Opry, and Opry Mills Mall.

The Hotel itself is phenomenal, with approximately 3,000 guest rooms, several restaurants, and bars all within.

The Grand Ole Opry is country music's most famous stage. A must for all country music fans IMO. Shows every Friday and Saturday nights. They will also be doing shows on Thursdays in September.

Opry Mills Mall is pretty much just a large mall (much larger than any in LA). Several stores and restaurants, including Bass Pro, Dave and Busters, Rainforest Cafe, and Gibson Showcase.

Ryman Auditorium
Home to the original Grand Ole Opry. Was moved to the newer, larger home in 1974. They have a museum and quick tours. Can also stand on the stage, take pictures, and pick the guitar.

Opryland and Opryland mall will still be closed in September.

Grand Ole Opry is still going on, but moving around town. Mostly at the Ryman downtown.

Other food places right around Vandy:

Rotiers is great for burgers. Small, but delicious. And good fried pickles.

Gold Rush is another good bar right around Vandy. Decent food, good variety, plenty of TVs in the bar area.

Gulch area

Watermark, Sambucca, Flying Saucer, Flyte, Whiskey Kitchen and Catina Laredo are all pretty cool/hip areas to hang out with a young hip crowd. Because of 2 or 3 immense condo developments right on top of the restaurants there is always something going on here. All those places I mentioned above are about 3 blocks apart at most.

Mercy Lounge - For live music you can't beat this place. They get alot of popular 'alternative' bands and always a blast. This is 3-4 blocks from the other places I mentinoed above..all in the same area.

Food

Baja Burrito - Next to 100 Oaks Mall in the Melrose area this locally owned burrito place has the best fish tacos you'll ever eat..oh and the view is OUTSTANDING. Never been there when the clientele wasnt easy on the eyes.

Calypso - Next to Vandy near centinniel park or there's one next to Baja Burrito in Melrose they have the most amazing rotisserie chicken and you have to get the house dressing on the salad. I suggest getting all 3 curry sauces on the side so you can try them out with the chicken.

Athens Diner - Also in the same area as Calypso and Baja this place has the most amazing greek diner food. I highly recommend the dessert that I can't spell or pronounce..just tell the waitress to bring you the popular dessert..she'll know what you're talking about. Bonus: I think they're open 24 hours on the weekend.

Gabbys - Everyone knows my love of this place..a bit further up on 8th, next to Sounds stadium. Only open for lunch and until 7pm on Friday night. Grassfed beef, homemade fries (and homemade sweet potato fries) this place rocks. Tell them to put a fried egg on top.

Kien Ghiang - Its good to be the kien. Best vietnamese food in Nashville hands-down located on Charlotte just south of white bridge road. Get the pork bun bowl and a side of spring rolls (delish) and the Cafe Du Monde coffee with sweetened condensed milk and you'll leave in a caffiene-and-sugar-induced stupor. Don't forget to douse your bun with the red sauce with the pissed off rooster on the side.

Royal Thai - about a block from kein ghiang on white bridge road..very good thai. yum.

La Hacienda - Nolensville Road just south of 440. Really there is no competition for authentic taqueria mexican food. The chorizo & eggs and the burrito are to die for. I can eat an entire bottle of green sauce..usually I grab a second one from a nearby table. My absolute favorite mexican restaurant.
