I've read about, and heard, this debate for years.
When engaging the blades, which is best:
Lower RPM engagement OR Higher RPM engagement ?

My Hustler Dash manual states to engage at higher RPMS, 2/3 to be exact.

I use heavy gator mulching blades and turn them on full rpm.

depends on the machine. My Kubota uses a PTO for the blades so they recommend lower RPM.

My gravely manual says to engage the PTO at lower RPMs, but most of the time I do it at high RPMs. Never had an issue.

I always turn mine on about 2/3 to full speed. Never had an issue.

729 Grasshopper w/ 61" deck. I use a double set of blades mounted at 90 degrees to each other so there is a bit more inertia to overcome, that being the case, I go to about 2/3 throttle and jog the clutch a couple of times on the first start to keep from killing the engine. Once the bearings and belts are warmed up I just pop the switch at any speed and the clutch locks up immediately.
The double set of blades shreds everything and spreads the hay across a 10 foot or more swath.

The blades on the cub cadet disengage when you barely bump reverse and instantly re-engage when you go forward.
I'm thinking on it it doesn't matter.

Scag Tiger Cat 2 .Manual says : Do not attempt to engage deck drive at high speed as this shortens the electric clutch life.Use only moderate engine speed when engaging the deck drive.
