But the never actually did the fish testing, instead they used the equipment and took "customers" out on charter fishing trips. On the state payroll, using the sates boats, state's gas, etc. etc..

Maybe so, but it's not your tax dollars. It'll probably come from some money generated from off-shore drilling or something like that. Or maybe license sales. Or maybe nothing at all, since most of that crap was probably bought with the intention of someone taking it. What the heck does LDWF need Shimano reels for? Seriously? That's not standard fish sampling equipment.

Why did LDWF need all of that shite anyway? They could have hired a captain to take them out to catch a few fish for testing.

It was BP $$ give to state for testing to prove our seafood was safe. Eric was the lead man along with his GF monica. I think many items were ordered/bought as wedding gifts; paddle boards ??? I never looked at the complete lists but am sure if they needed paddle boards there were other items that were not standard for fish testing.

Ever occur to any of you that maybe this is a shite case from a prosecution standpoint? I’m not defending the AGs office, but maybe they reviewed it and decided they’d spend more money prosecuting than the cost of the goods stolen. Add to that the likelihood that the defense could probably get light sentences and it’s not difficult to see why the AG might walk away.

As posted above, the bigger question is why LDWF bought all this shite to begin with. Lack of prosecution MAY be cause of politics as usual or maybe it’s our fricked up watered down justice system that seems to have no teeth.

The Shimano Stella's that they were selling online (presumably from oil spill loot) were probably close to if not over $1k per reel

Close doesn't count.

Over 1k and they laid the blame on the property manager.

It hurts my soul to see guides I use to respect posting on social media about journey south outfitters and how great they are. Anything for buck I guess...

It was a lot more than one stella. High $ Bingulars, Remodeled houseboat in Venice, Extra boat, High dollar foul weather gear, etc etc.

What is the name of their charter business? I want to make sure I never use them. They should be black-balled by honorable people.

It wouldn't have gone to trial anywhere if the items weren't serialized and recorded properly.

Too much doubt.
Agreed. There's a big difference between "knowing" and proving someone is guilty.

For example - O.J. Simpson got away with murdering Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman. And there was a lot more evidence in that case than what we've heard about the LDWF case.

Not saying that LDWF and the AG's office aren't politically driven departments. All state agencies are, some more than others. But proving theft of unserialized items is difficult, absent an eyewitness.
