Where to people think criminals' guns originate??

Im sure the vast majority were purchased legally. That doesn't change the fact that many thousands are already out there and license requirements aren't going to get rid of them.

No. It's my right to bear arms. You don't need a license for something that is your right.

Another lazy response. Not everyone in this country should have the right - it's obvious

EDIT: Looks like plenty of downvotes - someone please entertain me with the argument that everyone in this country should be able to own a gun.

Some points to consider for all of you hardline gun people who refuse any suggestions. The second amendment doesn't grant you unlimited gun freedoms. Public opinions are shifting away from gun culture. Eventually, your gun rights will be limited if we as gun owners don't weed the crazies out. We need to get a head of this and have our say on how things play out.

It's not a lazy response. It's called the truth. It's already my right. Why do people seem ok with this but people flipped out about a piece of shite bump stock ban.

Then why in Chicago with the most gun legislation have the most gun violence?

Are you saying people in Chicago can't drive and buy guns in another city?

You don't realize it but you're a major part of the problem.

Taking this cold approach and response is what turns the general, non gun-owning public's opinion against you. You look like a crazy NRA looney with this response.

More extreme opinions will always be ignored when it comes time for making policy. The ability to think in moderation is what gets satisfaction on both sides.

Why do people need these fully automatic military assault rifles anyway. Revolvers, bolt action rifles and shotguns should be legal only after registering.

So, you would be up for a gun registry?

Not saying I am completely for it, but its not much different than today's background check...just more detail.

They could just as easily start a registry in today's circumstances

Really?

They're already there so, therefore, we should just not worry about it? That's the point you want to make?

I have never shot at a person in my life. I am so not part of the problem. Unless I'm confused about what the problem is.

And Donald Trump will never be president.

Piss off the silent majority and see what happens.

I voted same as you did - and I'm in favor of what the OP is proposing. This was my opinion a year ago same as today. I am also not alone so don't assume a vote for trump means a vote for zero gun regulations.

Aren’t pistols illegal in the city or Chicago?

I would absolutely be against a license to buy a gun. That would go against the constitution IMO.

What I would not be against a more stringent background check. I believe the medical background should be part of it. If someone is taking or has taken antipsychotics then they have to be able to prove that they are fit to own a gun.

Only if you answer my dog allergy question.

But seriously, when does it stop? The statistics show that rifles only contribute to a miniscule amount of all murders. Alcohol should be banned or have more restrictions than firearms.

Cigarettes should have been banned outright a long time ago.
