Last night was the first rain we’ve seen in 12-15 weeks. It’s been brutal.

This is why there’s no crops. Just tree farms and cattle

We held out and planted Thursday and Friday in Hermanville. Missed rain this weekend. Praying it happens Tuesday or Wednesday.

I'm in St Francisville and didn't get a drop over the weekend. Smelled like it wants to when I left this morning, though. My yard is a dust bowl right now.

I was in Central Mississippi this weekend, we put out fertilizer with high hopes, the light smattering we got wasn’t even enough for the seeds to germinate. Cuz says the number of sloughs dried up is the worst he’s seen in the 25 years since he converted the property to wetlands to put it in the mitigation bank.

Zero just south of Natchez

Ground so hard the hogs can’t root up food plots

with them trying to to take decent chance on tuesday out, its going from very dry to very very dry.

If it were summer temps, we'd start to see trees dying. Think the cooler temp and going dormant may prevent that.

yes. Many native deciduous trees and shrubs react to a late season drought by just going dormant early. Oct/Nov are usually the driest months of the year anyway, obviously being this far down in rainfall deficit is unusual but the trees have seen this before.

Evergreens (magnolia, pine, live oak etc) just stop growing and can endure long stretches if established.

Cool season annuals just wait it out and leftover summer annuals like grasses and legumes die off early but have already gone to seed. Basically the only thing not happening is new seed sproutage LOL

Perfect

My “solution” for next season will be to establish vetch in all of my fields and hunt them till the first frost. Then frost seed lol

Our supplemental protein bill for the cattle will be high. We usually start feeding hay around thanksgiving. We ran out of grass the 1st week of October.

We luckily got hay early and the 2nd cut had enough. But feeding hay for 5 months of the year is no way to be profitable.

It’s always been this way. We stopped with the cattle and goats in 1975
