I actually agree with you. I’ve always freshwater fished my entire life and in my 20’s I went speck fishing for the first time at last island. I couldn’t understand what people liked about it. The fish do not fight at all, fishing with live bait sucks and there are atleast 20 fish that taste better than speck.

why are people in South Louisiana so obsessed with bragging about ice chest full of 12 to 14 inch speckle trout that don't even put up any resistance once you hook em??? Its live bait fishing for panfish. It takes zero effort. Catching a limit of specks is not an accomplishment by any means

They can be easy to catch and they don't put up much of a fight but they are fun to catch and they eat good. What's not to like????

What's wrong with catching bream and crappie with live bait? Big bream are as crafty as any fish that swims anywhere. Nothing beats catching big ole copperhead bream with a pole and crickets. I find that life lead simply is preferable to one lead weighted down with complexity. I have been fortunate enough to catch a truck load of Marlin in my life but I don't find it any more enjoyable than catching a 1 pound bluegill or redhead or shellcracker on a cricket with a pole. Its all about what you enjoy. I got a friend who will not fish live bait...he likes to chunk and wind, his words, not mine...can not tolerate flat lining a baitfish....I like catching fish and I like fishing equally well....anykind of fish on any kind of bait....but each to their own...

the offshore guys laugh at your cute little speckled trout. We use bait bigger than that

I think I qualify as an offshore guy and I like catching specks. Never met anyone who didn't. Can't understand why anyone would fish for them if they didn't like catching them. Plus specks make great live baits around rigs...it probably ain't legal any more but a flat lined speck about 12 inches long used to be blue bloody murder on Cobs....they couldn't resist.

People keep saying live bait, like there's no other option. Big trout on a top water is a fricking blast and my favorite thing to do, especially wading.

I've found that Blue Wave owners are slowly replacing Nautic Star owners as the googans of south Louisiana. At least Nautic Star owners know that they got a cheap boat. Blue Wave baws at the launch with their lifted F250 and black trailer rims think they are on par with yellowfin, blackjack, etc.

Not arguing, but a 24' Nautic Stars/Blue Waves costs close to 70k brand new, so not exactly a "cheap boat"

Lower redfish limits for bow fishing would be ideal.

eta: it is fun though, but surely detrimental to the fishery
