Why do my dogs hate being bathed...?

Two labs, can't keep them out of the pool or the river when we go to the camp, love the water...
Bath time, you'll think I was leading them to a Korean kitchen... They can't stand it, constant fight... Anyone else with the same issues...?

My parents dog is the same way. If she's outside she'll run through every puddle imaginable but as soon as shes in the bathtub its a shite show. My dad just started washing her outside with a hose and she seems to handle that better.
ETA: She's a lab mix. Must be something in their blood

My older one growls the entire time.

They get bathed with the hose outside, with an easy flow at that, and it's still a shite show.... Kills me...

Dad cleans his labs with the pressure washer. They love it. Not too keen on a regular bat though.

My dachshund only growls when you are drying her off with a towel. Then she goes apeshite and runs as fast as she can around the house.

I can wash my tracking dog like a car. He just stands there until I tell him to shake.
The coon dog is tougher. I have to hang on to him.

quote:yeah, I think they all do that. They would love to find a rotting carcass to roll in at about that point.

That's the thing about mine, they love the towel dry... Matter of fact, when I'm drying one, the other tries to jump in...

my golden would come over to the hose, sit down, and stay while you bathed him. my bloodhound will run upstairs and hide if you even look at the hose, we have to lure her over, strap her in with a lease tied to the fence, and hold on for dear life
it's pretty funny
she looks like you are spraying her with acid

Dogs are a hoot.
My mom has a Boston Terrier that LOVES baths. You say the word to her and she jumps up and down.

I can't keep my lab out of any water he sees but when I bathe him he looks at me like I'm the one who cut his nuts off for the rest of the day. What an a-hole.

My lab will swim all day long, find the biggest mud puddle to jump in and then roll in it and his favorite thing is it to run full speed through shallow water.
However, if a single drop of rain falls from the sky and hits him in the back yard he will yelp like he is being beaten with a chain. He has knocked the gate down twice this year.
Also, he will hide when it is bath time. Once you get a hold of him through, he will stay put and seems to enjoy it.

grandmaws small mut dog loves to get bathed, she runs to the tub and jumps in... but you say the word bath to her and she growls and bites at you.. might have something to do with nephew saying "bath" followed by grabbed her by the collar and dragging her around the house.
big dog loves baths too, but after he goes apeshit and finds where I clean fish and ducks and rolls in it, or goes roll in chicken and quail poop

I just give mine a bath with the hose outside these days. Have for the past 3-4 years. They just made too much of a mess inside, and that was in the sink in the garage/basement. One sheds like crazy when you give her a bath, and the other one does the wild running around afterwards, and knocked over a step stool that was propped up, and it fell over and broke some light bulbs, so I had to shop vac up a bunch of glass shards. After that I just decided it wasn't worth it.

But your dogs don't stink, right? I mean, nobody can even tell you have a dog when they walk in your doghouse...er house.
For the record, I am not aiming this at you, but to the delusional people that think their dogs don't smell like dogs.
