So I've looked at the ls mt225he, the mahindra 2635, and the john deere 3038. Narrowed to the jd or the mahindra. JD for heavy shredder, trailer, scraper, bucket... about $27000 with 0%. The mahindra is the same price with similar implements, 5.89%.

The mahindra has better lift capacities, but otherwise similar, however it does have independent rear braking where the JD does not.

If we go mahindra, we will go cash. If JD, why pass on free money...

Question is, what are the more experienced people's thoughts.

We have 40 acres in the centerville TX area. About 10 acres open and do plan to clear a bit more. Dam yaupon overtakes shite too fast.

I grew up with and old Ford 3000, so I am knowledgeable on tractors, just not one this fancy...

As always, thanks everyone for input.

At that size, both will probably be comparable. Service would be a big factor to consider

The 0% on the john deere would do it for me

I should add, both have similar warranties and service near the final location.

Can anyone comment on reliability differences? Online reviews on manufacturer site have been a bag of mixed results.

I got a JD 3032 last year and love it. We have a dealership/service dept 2 miles from the camp so that was a big factor. We got the 0%. Cant really beat that.

I want to shred upto 1 to 1.5" yaupon, in your experience could the 32 handle that?

0% financing is what led me to Kubota two years ago. Bought a L4701 4x4 hst and haven’t looked back. I did look at the John Deere and may have gone green had the dealer given a shite about my business. Kubota seemed a little more user friendly when I was looking.

I think that if you are going to be using a rotary cutter those options would be on the small side. I would go up to at least a Kubota L4701 4WD with HST.

Shoot man, just find an old Ford 5000 and use that. It'll be a better tractor and a lot cheaper.

Those old Fords are beasts.

If I were maintaining that amount of land, I would step up to a Kubota MX5200 or MX5800 4WD HST. The 5800 has 50 hp to the pto.

Not to high jack your thread but can you still get tax breaks if you buy a tractor for a registered farm?

Yes, in tx if you have a tax exempt number from the land being recognized and appraised as ag exempt (which we do not have). Working on a timber exemption, but that takes years to get... and I need the tractor now.

I just bought a ls xg3025 which is the same as the 225 they just rebranded the same tractor. I love the little thing. The loader is the strongest among any 25hp and it has a dedicated hydro pump for the fel. I was torn between the jd and the ls. For me it boiled down to the specs. The Ls had the better loader with quick attach and still had the independent pto.

ETA just saw you said you had 40 acres. You need something bigget. Minimum 40hp I would think

Can’t go wrong with either. As stated the 0% means A LOT. With that being said our small tractors are now Mahindra's due to the lifting and pump power for hay and cattle farming. When you get to the larger tractors the the green seems to stand ahead of the pack. My brother also runs 12 poultry houses and let me tell ya, the green machine stands out in the 100hp range and above. He has a MF and Kubota and they do not last compared to the JD. Chicken shite is some awful stuff on tractors.

Figure out what the mahindra will cost you with interest. Then buy the biggest JD that comes out to about the same $$ over the life of the loan. I don’t know anybody who wishes they had a smaller tractor. With 40 acres, I wouldn’t go less than 40 hp IMHO.

I have the non HST L4701 and love it, great machine.

If all you are going to really us it for is as a loader and bush hog the HST is the way to go, if you are going to be pulling anything with it go gear drive IMHO.

The wear plates in a HST just dont like pulling things to put it as simply as possible from my experience.

OP, if you can buy a Mahindra or JD at the same price going green is a no brainer, the product support is not even comparable.

Two years ago I bought a JD 4105 4x4 with bucket and love it. I have 55 acres and sometimes wish I would have went bigger but tractors hold there value therefore after I pay it off if I really do need something bigger I can sell it for a really nice down payment. It gets a lot of work done and does a really nice job.

Have you talked to a bank? I’d think you could do better then 5.89%. That’s all I had to add.
