I owned a BAR in 7-08. It was a deer slayer. I let a friend talk me into selling it to him. Regret it.

X-bolts look sexy. I've never known them to be sub moa.

My $0.02

I have a A-bolt stainless steal stalker with boss brake in a .270wsm that has one of the smoothest actions I have in my arsenal. I thought about getting rid of it because it’s a little hard to find the wsm’s sometimes but I likely won’t.

I have the X Bolt and it’s gotta be 1/2 of the weight of the A Bolt II. Much easier gun to handle.

Yeah, me too! Dad had the blr 308 & 257 Roberts at one time but I never asked him what he did with them. I got his bar safari grade 7mm and 3006 and doubt I will ever shoot them again. The 7 kicks like a 22.

Had my 270 BAR since 1988. I was asked do you want a ring or a rifle for graduation. Solid choice right ? $575 without tax.
A fine piece of equipment

The best is the FN High Power.

However out of your choices it is the A-bolt II.

Still older NIB ones out there. Search the GB and be patient. Also the Boss threads can be used for a suppressor.

Thanks for the replies, although I'm more confused than ever now.

I'd like something in 308 as that's what I primarily shoot now and have a crap load of ammo already. Been shooting the Mossberg Patriot which shoots great but I'd like to upgrade to something nicer. Already have a Leupold VX3 sitting in the safe for it. Will hand the Mossberg down to my son.

I have an A Bolt ll in 7wsm, A BAR in 7 Rem Mag, and one in .308. All have been great for me. I do not like the new cheap version A Bolt or the X Bolt. I will say that an A Bolt ll in wood is hard to beat for looks and performance. I would go to Gunbroker and gun shows if you are not in a hurry.

I bought a buddy a X-Bolt with the synthetic stock chambered in 30-06 for his wedding present a couple years ago and was shocked at the recoil from that rifle when we went to sight it in. I have both an A Bolt with wood and one with a synthetic stock also chambered in 30-06 and they both have dramatically less recoil than that XBolt. It just flat out would jar the fillings outta your teeth with every shot.

Completely different takeaway from my experience. I spent an afternoon getting to know my 30-06 with 165 grain fusions and Federal ABs. I thought it was pleasant considering how light it is.

just a thought - are you committed to Browning? You can get a lot of Winchester for a little less money. Fine rifle.

Nope, just had good luck with other Browning firearms that I own. (Shotguns and pistols)

Stick with browning then.

I would buy another AB Medallion used than the new bolt.

I could sit on the porch and just make music with that smooth action. Butter

I have hunted with a browning A-bolt stainless stalker with BOSS since the mid 90’s. Chambered in .270 and is more accurate than me along with being a pleasure to shoot recoil wise. The safety is as quiet as they come and the detachable box magazine is great. Only complaint is having to put the rifle on fire to unchamber a round.

We have 4 Browning’s. My go to is the BLR in 7mm-08. Beautiful gun.
