Figure with all this extra time on the weekends I should finally get some nets.

Looking to get a good 12-18 nets. I know there are plenty of places or individuals that make them that you can buy from but I’m asking the OB if you have any particular that you would recommend.

Looking for stainless rings, double ringed, with float ready to go.

Anything else I should look for? Does color matter? Dipped?

TIA

Not totally sure where your located, but I'm pretty sure PAC only allows a dozen nets per boat now. (May want to double check that)

Sorry, should have added that. Houma area, I’ve heard about the restrictions in PAC.

You want galvanized rings not stainless. They catch much better. I seen someone selling them with 30" rings but I cant for the life of me remember where I seen them advertised.

How far are your from Raceland? Mr Raymond Eskina* makes some nice ones.

Alario brothers in Westwego has a good selection. The only thing bad about crabbing in PAC is you can get mostly females.

Any particular reason behind this? Interesting.

I don't know, but I can tell you from my experience the galvanized works better and i've heard it from other friends of mine that crab as well. Maybe it's because the stainless is shiny and they stay away from it? I have 2 traps the same as mine with stainless rings and they dont catch as much.

Not true everywhere in PA, I don't go on the impoundment, If I catch 6 dozen I may have 3 or 4 females. I do catch a good bit of busters too.

Where: Adams Fruit Market in Raceland...call b4 going

The guy makes a double ring net.. Netting is a plastic material that won't rot...it is flexible & light...You can tell the minute you grab the float if there's going to be crab(s) in it...I find there is break in period with nets..something about the newness or smell that seems to repel the 1st time using....

What happens if you buy nylon netting that is dipped ..It has a heavier drag coming through the water..& is a lot stiffer..The result is that some crabs will end up crawling out before you can pick it up....Good Luck

Facebook. Help out some local guy. Adam's in Mathews has some good ones.

All wildlife management areas just limit you to a 12 nets per boat.

They should have gone down on the number of crabs, not number of nets.

Enforcement need to patrol rockfella better then. Couple winters ago there were two boats fishing 20-30 drop nets but I’m sure it was for personal consumption.

The rule went into effect this past summer. There was originally no trap limit.

Went yesterday with my 12 nets in PAC area. Would catch about 2 per trap. Above average size and mostly males.. Zero throwbacks. Quit with about 75 had stuff to do around the house.

Sounds like a perfect day to me.

What should I expect to pay for these nets? 120-150/doz sound about right?
