There used to be an eagle's nest in a big tree a few blocks from my house in Metairie. After Hurricane Ida Entergy sent the tree trimmers out in the neighborhood and cut down a few big branches on that tree and the eagle's haven't been seen since.

There seems to be some confusion here about our eagles.

Was that nest near Kawanee and Cleveland? I heard the nest blew down, but that was third hand information. It would really suck if a utility crew ran them off.
In the early 90s I was on the levee in River Ridge with my ~12 year old nephew. He said, "Oh, look! A bald eagle!" I was about to ridicule the kid because I'd NEVER seen an eagle (bald or otherwise) in the N.O. Metro area, but I looked up and to my amazement it was a bald eagle. Pretty fricking cool!

In Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Utah they almost always start harassing decoys around 9-10 AM. It is unusual when they do not. It is kind of fun to watch the first few times but its impossible to decoy birds when there's a damned eagle diving in the dekes. Floaters and field sets alike...when the eagles show up you may as well pick 'em up. I was told these were younger birds and older ones wouldn't do it but I ain't never asked one for proof of age...

Higher limit? I thought it was against federal law to kill a bald eagle.
Just about against the law to look at one...especially if you look at it in anger.

Some of them are probably Ospreys. There's a ton of them down there

out of the air
Saw one wing a coot in Lake Boeuf out of the air, then slowly soar down to the water and pick it up after circling it a while.
Makes me nervous with our wienie dog sometimes because there’s a patch of woods at the end of my street with a breeding pair. Theyve been circling the last few days since they cut the cane.

I see the same one out of my office pretty regularly too.

There are probably 20 breeding pairs on Santee Cooper and another forty or fifty young males that line the diversion canal between the two lakes everyday waiting for fishermen to throw fish guts and heads into the water for the crocs and eagles.

I spent quite a bit of time down around Bayou Gauche about 10 years ago, and we would see a dozen bald eagles regularly.
Just depends where you are and the time of year, but they are definitely more common now.

Pontiff had a pair for years, they’d fly around Metairie. One time, during the end of the National Anthem at a Country Day football game, this Bald Eagle glided through the goal posts from one end if the field to another. Auburn couldn’t have timed it better.

Last spring there were at least 10 bald eagles circling or in trees in NW Arkansas along I-49 right before the Missouri line. I saw them for several days at the same location.

Are underrated as table fare too. Great for soup.

Seems like way more than usual around my camp at T Bend also. Lots of females and they were diving in middle of lake last time I was up there. Love to watch them.

Is your shop close to the river off of HWY 23?
Saw one at the camp across the river in east Pt a la Hache a few weeks ago. Yes, I know the difference between a bald eagle and an osprey. Got to believe they have everything they need along the river. Rabbits, squirrels, rats, ducks/coots, trees.
Those f’ers better not get too far from the river to where we duck hunt. Eagles are natures duck repellent.

Just like fried turkey on Thanksgiving, we have a fried eagle on the 4th of July. Delicious, but I don't care for them smoked or roasted.
