What's the most versatile breed of dog?

Not in the market for another dog right now but enjoy reading folks opinions on dogs.
I have a purebred lab, a mutt lab, and a mountain cur. The purebred lab can do just about everything the other two can plus some. I can bring her anywhere and not have to worry about her behavior.
The cur has a crazy high prey drive but is dumber than a brick. He is great for keeping varmints out of the garden and keeps kids away from snakes.
The mutt is too smart for his own good and is one of the laziest dogs I've ever been around. He's old as dirt and is in a perpetual bad mood. He's never done anything more than sleep and fart for 22 hours aday.
From my experience with dogs, I think all my future dogs will be labs.

My mutt hates the roomba so much he figured out he can tap the button on top to make it stop. Him and my wife (on the app) used to go back and forth the whole car ride to church because he would stop it and she would keep starting it.
Eventually he figured out he could nudge it enough and the roomba would think it was stuck and my wife couldn't turn it back on.

Also true of mine. The only dog I have ever had the if I don't watch him close enough outside he will pee on the edge of the concrete just so he doesn't have to walk out into the grass. Add to that he actually groans, not growls, when he is laying in his bed and I have to move him to get in a cabinet where he sleeps.

The Labrador retriever, hands down. People spend lots of time and money trying to make other breeds do what comes easy to a Lab.

Everyone will have an opinion on this, but I'd go with lab or golden retriever. Assuming the same type of bloodline, they are both incredible retrievers, hardy, biddable, great noses so they can bloodtrail, and excellent temperaments around families and other dogs. Obviously there are always exceptions, but I would say one of those two breeds has to be at the top of that list. I would also include GSP/GWP high up on that list too.

Except shedding.
But its worth it to me.

Catahoulas and Catahoula/Australian Shepherd mixes can basically do anything a lab can do, except they have a much better nose and they are faster and more agile.
However, are also weaker swimmers, but they are no slouch in the water at all and very smart. They also have a level of protectiveness in them that are off the charts.
Labs are probably better family dogs, though, especially in a residential are. They won't go tracking scents all the time and they don't have that hound howl. They just seem to be less aggressive in certain situations as well.

Mine drops dog food in front of it until it clogs up and stops. The sucker has the nerve to wait by me when I open it up to see if he can get the food back.

ETA: the roomba isn't usually that dirty.

Border collies are good, can be a little too defensive of their owner though. I’ve had several, all can get pissed off when strangers walked up to me or came inside the house, never ever bit anyone thankfully

Most versatile I've ever had was a blue lacy gyp. She would pen cows, tree squirrels, track deer, and guard the house

I would say a Labrador. Until one person mentioned the shedding issue. Which would point to the labradoodle being a better dog. They are extremely intelligent and versatile. And i believe they shed alot less.

I have a Catahoula cur and he is high maintenance sometimes but man, he is intelligent

Lab is the answer. I know a guy who duck hunts with a Brittany. They are great all around dogs as well.

i agree. if you want a bird dog get a Lab, but for just about anything else a GSD is hard to beat
except shedding in the house

Bred to do everything a lab does, plus point upland, plus bay pigs, plus track wounded game. I know labs can be trained to do these things, but the DD has to prove proficiency in all of them in order to be certified for breeding.

I have a Lacy gyp that does all those things, but holy hell it's a full time job keeping her worn down enough to not be a handful. My male only tracks deer, but is just as hyper.
