If a bream weighed 5 pounds, you would need heavy salt water gear to catch them. Pound for pound they are as tough as anything swimming, and damn fine table fare to boot.

I would argue that a rainbow trout is the strongest in fresh water. Those things can fight and are very fun to catch on a fly rod

hybrid and tarpon for me though I need to catch more saltwater fish.
The tarpon was somewhere between 30-40 pounds and caught on a tiny pole with 6 pound test... Hell of a fight. Didn't get a picture because I was in Florida and you aren't supposed to pull them from the water and a crowd had gathered watching the fight so we didn't want to break any rules..

Having fished inshore everywhere from south florida to LA, no inshore fight is even close to a snook, they go bonkers and once you get wrapped around a mangrove root it's ballgame
A snook doesn't even come close to a bonefish

I haven't caught one, but the offshore guys will tell you it's Tuna. I think their speed is what makes them such a hard fighter.
From my experience it's the best fight. But idl about pound for pound bc they tend to get pretty big.
