I let my dogs out every evening when I get home from work. One is an American Bulldog, the other an English Bulldog/Amstaff mix. The AB barks a lot and we have kids playing all over, mine included.

The neighbor behind me has been turning on his car alarm every time the dog barks. He left it on for 10 minutes this evening. I leave the dog out and let him bark. His neighbors probably can’t stand this.

My dog is never outside barking early or late. Never before 8:00 (I leave for work and let him out at 4:30 - No barking) or after 8:00pm.

Today a handfull of rocks come over the fence while my daughter was playing in the back yard followed by, “shut the frick up!!!!!!!!!”

My first thought was to drive around and talk to him. Others gave me advice to get cameras.

WWTOBD?

Edit: I don’t want him to poison my dogs. I guess that’s my concern.

I certainly would not tolerate rocks being thrown at my children nor someone yelling frick around them.......but barking dogs can be annoying as hell and I am a dog person

See my edit.

I thought about that but I’m not wanting to make bad neighbors. I’ve lived here for 5 years. This has only been going on for a few weeks.

Agreed. But turning his car alarm on for 10 minutes doesn’t help things. It sure as hell doesn’t help me get the dog inside and he is trained. When rocks are hitting the fence it really doesn’t help. His barking is more annoying to me than anybody.

Go file a report just in case he either hits your kid with a rock or kills your dog

It’s hard to gauge, not knowing them, but I’d do both, talk and cameras in the trees. Maybe bring a bottle of bourbon when you go to talk, admit your dogs bark, and explain their routine. Suggest that when the dogs bark he pour a drink of whiskey. Who knows. Maybe it would work. He sounds like a dick.

One of our two small dogs is also a barky dog, but smart.

Got a $30 bark "shock" collar off Amazon which beeps before mildly shocking. At least I think it shocks because our dog stoped barking pretty soon after she first heard the beep warning before shock.

Worked like a charm and when she starts back the collar solves it.

Its gotten so good I quit replacing the battery, just snap the collar on and she stops, good thing because the battery is expensive 10 bucks.

Now, early on if it's my other dog barking nearby while the collar's on and charged up then it can get pretty funny.

this I highly doubt

As owner of the animals it is your responsibility as a good citizen to keep it from bothering others.

You need to man up and go speak to them and come to a detente, for all you know you schedule may be conflicting with theirs and it is on you to at least attempt to make as little impact on others lives as possible with your dogs, anything less is just going to escalate the situation.

That being said throwing rocks is a dick move esp if he was aware the child was there.

Jesus Christ. I come to the OB and this is the response I get?

I’ll go talk to him and see if I can schedule my life and dogs around his life? Read the op and when my dogs bark.

Edit.

My dog is never outside barking early or late. Never before 8:00 (I leave for work and let him out at 4:30 - No barking) or after 8:00pm. The dog is inside all day long.

Is the guy working night shift? Is there an infant in the house being woken? Be a man and go find out what the issue is, very few folks would be getting pissed about the occasional yap.

And yes, it is up to you, your wish to have pets does not override everyone else desire for peace and quiet.

The neighbor is being a bit passive aggressive about it but you are clearly aware you are inconveniencing others and it is on you to resolve.

Your dogs are affecting his life, he isn't affecting your life. You're the one who decided to become a dog owner. He didn't make that choice for you.

How long are your dogs going at it? Is it like non-stop for 15min? If so, then I understand where the neighbor is coming from and you need to find some way of getting to a solution. It is unacceptable in a neighborhood to let a dog carry on a barking spell for more than a few minutes. And even that shouldn't be a common occurrence.

Maybe the dude is just old and looking for things to bitch about though. Maybe try one of those bark collars.

I'd start by letting him know that throwing rocks is gonna be bad for his health.

While you might, the passive aggressive OP and his neighbor will just keep increasing their noise levels and pissing off everyone else in the neighborhood.

One of them turns on alarms and the other leaves the barking dog out longer, these are both douchebag moves that simply annoy everyone else more than the intended target.

If I lived in that hood I would bitch slap both their asses daily till the nonsense stopped, hence why I will never have neighbors close to me.

A non stop barking dog can be aggravating no matter what time of day. We have two and when they start if it goes on for more than 15 or so seconds I go check on them and tell them to stop and they do. Put yourself in your neighbor's shoes.
Don't let something like this cause bigger problems. Remember this case from December 2017....... Harahan veterinarian accused of killing neighbor's dog because of its barking
