He has other guns I just allow him to take a pellet gun out alone.

That's the most important part in my book. He will learn the rules as he grows up but this has to be taught.

I am teaching him gun safety. He is doing well with it so far. He only points it at the dogs without collars!

Good stuff!

Only answer is 1-800-426-3529
(gamelaw)
Have him ticketed, lose his license for a year, pay the fine. He'll remember that shite.
You are rewarding breaking the law. What's next for little angus, spot lighting. You see the trend.

So he knew he was breaking the rules and chose to do anyways. I would give him some sort of punishment to teach him a lesson. Maybe make him miss the first day of hunting or something to teach him a lesson. Nothing to get overly mad about but some sort of formal punishment to teach him. He's 9 years old, he's more than old enough to know better.

I couldn't put all the squirrels and other game in a dump truck that I killed out of season before I wa 16 yo. Hell let the boy have his fun as long as it don't get out of hand.

I just talked to him about it last night didn't give him any kind of punishment. I know it was a blatant disregard for the law but who here hasn't? I don't want to teach him it's ok to break the law but I guess I dont set a good example. Hell I speed, refuse to wear a seat belt, not to mention operate machinery (tractors) under the influence of coors light. I figured we all aren't perfect and cut him some slack

You sound like a good pop Angus. Little boys are going to break rules. In my opinion it's a hell of a lot better for him to be killing doves out of season than stealing from a convenience store or sniffing paint. If a 9 year old boy isn't breaking any rules you might want to start worrying about him asking for Barbie dolls.
