Was in a new skeeter with a 200 SHO. All the boats I’ve had before run around 6000-6500rpms wide open and planes out.

This one is hitting 6000 at like 45mph and when planed out and wide open, the needle is way beyond 7000.

Is something wrong with my gage or do they just way under prop these things now?

At 7000 you are above the rev limiter, something else is going on. Either your gauge is wrong or someone flashed that SHO.

Not sure how big your boat is, but at 6000 you should be push more than 45 mph.

I'm hitting close to 50 mph at 4500 rpms.

What size prop are you running. That doesn't seem right at all. Should max out around 6500 rpm when propped correctly. You should see low 60's with that boat and motor.

Those engines recommend 5000-6000 not 6500

Sounds like the tach is off. All new engines as far as I know have rev limiters

45 mph @ 6,000 rpm

yeaaa somethin' aint right there. Would find it hard to believe it's mis-propped if dealer installed the prop, likely giving you what they normally put on that rig. You can check Yamaha's performance bulletins for that motor for prop references

Other than that, tach could be off

< 6200. Should be a 66-70mph boat if it is a bass boat.

yeah but it's a skeeter with a Yamaha so 45 seems about right

seriously though, if that thing is turning 7000 you need to get it to the shop ASAP.

I have a 200 sho on my frontier with a Yamaha saltwater series II 21p prop.

I turn about 5800-5900 at WOT and get about 60-62 light and 57 loaded.

My boat runs rpms and mph about the same so i cruise at 45 and turn 45-4600 rpms.

Somehting is def wrong with yours if you are Turning that much. With a factory matched prop it still shouldn’t be that off.

I have a 225 SHO on 2012 22' Nautic Star. Max rpms when new was around 5,700 and 55 mph. Performance data on their website listed 59 mph at 5,900 rpms, Never really tried hard to achieve 5,900.

I figure I could do the 60+ with less fuel and gear. 60 is fast in a bayboat.

My 175 on my late model skeeter hardly gets to 5000 and tops out around 62mph. I am thinking about raising it just a hair.
