What happened to LA Sportsman and rodnreel.com?

Before they changed their format there were generally a lot of post and reports on both sites. Did the format change kill the sites or was it something else? Some of the threads were informative.

Changed the format. The new format sucks.

lasportsman format was the nail in the coffin and the people that posted there
rodnreel went out window for me when all they talked about was the diversions

That... and it seemed like it was nothing but guides pimping their business and posting dock shots. It kinda got repetitive. Also you can now flaunt pics on instagram and not have to worry about giving up general location and have 50 fckin boats within casting distance when you fish the same area the next day.

Classifieds haven't seemed as bad lately on Sportsman...but I havent been on there much

You can throw Salty Cajun on there too. They have almost no traffic now.

Try marshforums.com, small site but uses the forum format.

They turned into guide ads masquerading as reports and when called out on it deleted the post and turned off the folks that visited the site.

Started getting bad about 10 years ago.

Started getting bad about 10 years ago. Stopped going to both then.
My favorites were I'm Captain Bob and we limited out in 15 min with the Dave Jones party, then Dave Jones shows up with a 5 year old screen name and says horseshite, we chased fish all day and ended up with 3 keepers.
Dave Jones is now MIA on RodnReel, post deleted and banned, it was chickenshit.

why? to have people bitching that you didn't leave GPS coordinates or that they think you didn't give enough information?
Or to have your post deleted when you ask about map cards other than standard mapping?
or to have people push SeaTow on every other post?

I agree with both reasons.
The sites are crap and there only to push paid advertisement.
If you post an area, everyone who reads the site within a 4+ hours area will be there the next morning based on an internet report.

Facebook Groups have decimated nearly all the marginal forums. Tigerdroppings, Crappie.com, a few others remain strong because they have a hardcore community.
IMO, FB isn't a suitable replacement for forums. Too disorganized, hard to search for past topics, and the format of responses leaves much to be desired. But the ease of loading pics and videos is reason it works great. But for pure discussion, it's a mess.

FWIW, I just received an email from LASM saying they are updating their site.

I refused to go on LASM purely because the only person who gives reports doesn't know how to spell.

the problen with saltycajun was the admins didnt want a website where people could post reports and ask questions.
i saw someone created a post there asking why the admins were allowing their own moderators to insult people, hijack threads, and make fun of and run off new members simply for asking questions.
the website owners response was, "we dont care and leave the site if you arent happy", so about 60% of the actual contributors did just that.
only the trolls and a few guides stayed on so they get 1 or 2 posts a day at the most and its amazing they can pay the bills to stay active.
there is a big difference in a hands off approach to running a website and allowing it to be hostile to its own membership. the owners of that site couldnt understand this or simply didnt want the site to succeed.
the irony is, salty cajun was started by people who got unfairly banned from la sportsman for calling out the trolls there and saying anything negative against a guide even when justified.
it was stated when the site was started that it was intended to be a place to post reports free from trolls and censorship against calling out bad actors on the water

Exactly. All of their "stories" are basically a huge advertising push for something.
