So I am in need of some more duck ammo. I previously have shot Kent Fasteel and Hevi-Metal with good success. I would have been fine buying another case of the Hevi Metal because I had excellent results with it, but they no longer make it.

Should I go back with the Kents or is there something else I should try? I usually shoot #2, 3", 1 1/4oz shells.

I shoot what's cheapest. For years my local store had Kent at the best price. But lately they've had Rio's cheaper. They've shot well for me considering I've duck hunted about four times in the past two years.

Need more payload. I like to keep Kent or Estate 1 3/8 oz in my blind bag. And I’ll sometimes put them in my gun in the event green jeans show up and I have to sink my Fiochi Golden Pheasants. They clock in at 1 3/4 oz

2 3/4" loads usually in #4,#5,or #6. Most places factory modified choke. Only ammo out there I don't care too much for is Black Cloud.

Depends location. Open marsh or big rice pond shoot #4 or #6. I like to jam in a #2 for my 3rd shot if birds aren’t acting right and shots are further.

If just pothole in marsh or timber hole, low brass 7-1/2.

Any 2 3/4", 1-1/4 oz, #5 or #6 pheasant load will kill any duck in reasonable range. This has been my go to for years and I see no reason to switch at this point

I think they just changed the branding on the box. This stuff in a 3" 4 is lethal out of my Beretta. Patterns really well and hardly no cripples. It also will hammer the shite out of geese that are within reasonable range.

You trying to tickle them or what? I used to shoot steel 7s for teal but after so many cripples, Ive moved up to 6s as my minimum... I couldnt imagine shooting mallards with steel 7s unless they are 20 yards or closer. Even in timber you have to take shots longer than that sometimes

After further research, you may be correct. Their product catalog says they changed the makeup of their bismuth alloy so it is denser and now they call it "longer range".

This and I shoot a SBE2. Tried other shells and couldn’t kill shite. Switched to Hevi-metal 3” #4 and started dropping everything.

Back in the day, the Remington Nitro Mag 3" #4 was the baddest shell on the planet. It would drop Mallards like they got hit by a sledge hammer. However, the time when lead got outlawed was sadly also the time when Mallards stopped migrating to Louisiana.

Hmmm. You should probably run this by the Flyway Federation head knocker.

2.75" #7.5 lead is better than damn near most steel.

I’ve had good luck with Rio’s. On my 3rd season shooting them. Between dove/Teal/duck/goose/snipe I’m shooting 7-8 cases a season. So economy is important. But the 3” #5’s for teal and #2’s for big duck have been solid.

And Rogers Sporting Goods online will drop them on your doorstep in 3 days tax free no shipping.

I have shot just about every brand out there. Whatever brand you are confident with and can afford is the best brand for you.
