I like this idea. They are such a PITA to clean, nothing worse than going through all that to find out it’s inedible. Sometimes too gamey to even make sausage out of it.

Lot of ignorance in the thread. They are absolutely edible and delicious. I’ve killed a lot of pigs. Boars. Sows. They all eat really well.
Cut the glands out.
Trim away excess fat.
Get the meat cooled down so it doesn’t spoil.
Don’t over cook it.
All the same as you would on a deer.
I’ve used wild pig for Jambalayas, Stir Fry, Katsudon, Bibimbap, Summer Sausage, Breakfast Sausage, Gravy, etc.

Also alot of people haul them to the car wash before skinning.
Helps keep the nasty from the outside the hide off the meat while skinning.
I don't know why people will eat dear but not the hogs. I pass as a many as I can get my hands on through my grinder.

I think you should have left it where you killed it. I will never keep a boar hog. Worms and buzzards got to eat. Thats me giving back.

Where are these glands located?

Try for a bigger one.
I’ve killed up to 500 lbs and there’s no difference in taste.

Have eaten more than one boat over 209. As long as it doesn't smell, you good.

The reason every time the topic of eating boar hogs comes up half the posts say its great, the other half say throw it away is due to not everyone being able to smell the cooked “boar hog” odor! Yes of course all boar hogs stink when on the hoof, but I am talking about good properly prepared meat.
I have had meat with the “boar hog” odor stink so bad that I have had to put a cast iron pot outside, yet other guys in the kitchen could not smell it at all...
My test is to fry a small piece of meat, if it stinks to you it stinks! I personally only would test small boars, but everyone’s different.
If you do not smell the odor then great for you, if you can you know what I am talking about.

Wild hogs are meant to be given back to Mother Nature to eat. Leave them where they lay.

Did you remove all the scent glands?

Castrate immediately after killing..does wonders on big hogs

If you have a pressure washer use it to clean the hog prior to skinning it, especially during the warmer months. This will wash off some of the nasty and also get rid of most of the bugs on them while you skin it.

Fried up some backstrap from 200+ boar tonight. Was fantastic.

Fella that works for our family has done it my entire life; we give those away honestly as too much trouble to skin, etc; but have never left an animal we killed to rot and never had bad reviews of big hogs we gave to people that wanted them to use for a roast..
