They put a screen between the muffler and the head as a spark arrestor.
Check this first and remove the spark arrestor screen regardless. I’ve seen dirt dobber nests in the exhaust, too.

does it run a little better if you choke it a little?
If so, it's probably a bad carb diaphragm. easy fix.

Tru Fuel equals paying $60 for a gallon of gas. Costs as much as a cheap weedeater!

Mine did the same. Thanks ethanol. Put on a new carb an went trufuel only. Outside of a spark plug change it has run like new ever since.

I think it's more like $28/gallon.

$18/gallon yesterday at Lowes.

ETA not quite a gallon, only 3.25 liters. Im not going to do the math but it ain't $60.

And besides, it isn't all about nickles and dimes, it's about hassle.

Use the right formula for your motor and you don't have to start topics like this.

I have the quart size 40:1 for my weedeater and after two years it is still half full.

I went through my 4 cycle, gallon size, in two years with my honda mower.

The cost is really a non issue. My shite starts on one pull.

I would rather spend $3.00 for a gallon of ethanol free gas and $15 on a case of beer

You think that, but unless you go through it quickly, that gas is going to go bad. Trufuel has all kinds of other shite in to make it last longer.

If I were a pro and went through a gallon a day then I would agree with you.

It actually doesn't, which is why it is more shelf-stable than gasoline. TruFuel is mostly naphtha and two minor petroleum distillate additives outside of the 2-stroke oil additive package that is specific to the brand (TruFuel also makes and packages Stihl's Motomix among others). Gasoline is a mixture of many petroleum distillates as well as additives. Gasoline also has about 10% more energy per unit mass than TruFuel, so there is a slight performance penalty to using TruFuel or similar.

You sound exceptionally educated on the subject and if you have a newsletter I would love to subscribe to it. Not being a smartass either. I want to be educated.

I've seen some places sell Tru Fuel high as $15 a quart. That's insane

Why not just buy ethanol free gas at a station??

Could be the spark arrestor in the muffler plugged. I’ve got a few free weed eaters and a chain saw that needed 3 minutes to fix.

Because ethanol free doesnt have a shelf life of over 3 years and will still turn to turpentine if it sits for a while. Boutique fuel will not. Trufuel is just a new name for boutique fuels that have been out for a very long time.
Look up Aspen fuel. You'll learn everything there is to know about how boutique fuels differ from gasoline. Its nutts the difference between the two.
