We always used chicken necks and a piece of melt which I am pretty sure is cow spleen. It is soft and squishy and bloody. Crabs won’t let it go. You will probably have to go to a slaughter house to get some but it is awesome for drop lines

Tonys Seafood in BTR, they filet catfish all day. You can buy what's left. I've bought and used for crawfish bait also.

We used to use turkey necks and now whatever chicken is on sale.

Is there a particular reason everyone recs turkey necks?

That's what I grew up on using but never knew why the preference.

They tough and they last. An old man who made and ran quite a few drop nets told me, fish heads get them in thr net and turkey necks keep them there.

We used to use chicken wings when I was kid living in Metairie. That’s back long before wings were considered acceptable food.

Have not priced them but what about subbing turkey wings?

The tendons and ligaments prevalent in wings make them stay on their fasteners better than more meatier things.

Chicken wings are the most expensive part of a chicken, quarters the least.

Have you shopped for turkey wings lately? They about $3 a pound now, I'd much rather eat a turkey wing than the crabs you could catch with them.

I remember when chix wings were really cheap too. That and brisket, if you wanted a Brisket you had to tell the Butcher otherwise it was getting ground up.

I have used redfish heads in traps in places where we caught huge crabs fishing for reds with dead shrimp and never caught a crab. I was thinking the same thing. But wondered if redfish fillet parts other than the head might work.
