I have the A400 X+, I absolutely love that thing. Throw in a couple Muller chokes and its the baddest waterfowl killing gun I've owned.
Same here. I had an Outlander before this gun. Something about Berettas just fit me so I think personally a lot of it comes down to fit, but I will say I have seen way more Benneli lemons than Berettas.

I have the sbe 2 and the sbe 3. My 2 is as tough as they get. But my 3 shoots high and to the right… anyone else have this issue?

I have a browning a5, benelli m2, and beretta a400 in my rotation.
I find myself using the beretta more often than not, it’s just a smoother shooter and the recoil isn’t as bad as the others.
With that being said, I’ve put countless amounts of rounds through my a5 and abused that gun and it still works whenever I use it.
I’ve had a few issues with my m2, but I don’t mind it.
My advice would be play with as many as you can and pick the one that feels the best for you.

My Beretta A390 is the only gun I'll probably hunt with as long as I can still shoot.
My dad has an amazing B80 that will get passed to me one day and then I'll probably hunt with it some too just for memories.
It's so subjective. I like gas action and the Hump back.
Best thing to do is shoulder and or shoot a bunch of different styles and choose what feels and works the best for you.

Was a pump, then a benelli semi auto, next one will be an heirloom quality over under.

Have two Remington wing master pumps , five semi automatics, and a stoeger o/u 20 gauge . I only shoot the o/u now, except for geese .

Definitely A400 for me.

Really enjoy looking at others choices in waterfowl guns! I own many shotguns but For me there really is only 1 gun …. The browning auto5. A close 2nd would be the Remington 870. My original A5 with a 30” full has well over a 100 cases through it

Recommendations like this are hard…
The most important thing is that the gun fits you. Shouldering them and seeing what feels best should probably be the deciding factor.
I thought I would shoot my Beretta 3901 until it broke, then I’d repair it and use it as a backup. 17 years later, it still hasn’t broke, but I couldn’t pass up a Browning Maxus II. I figured I’d save the browning for backup duty, but I took it in the blind one time last year and it’s been with me for every hunt since. I can’t say if it’s better than the Beretta, but I’ve been thoroughly pleased with it.
I honestly like everything you suggested, but if I would buy a Maxxus ii over A5. If I really wanted an A5, I’d buy the A5 20 gauge (which is on my list

Man I totally agree. A great gun is 75% about fit in my opinion. When it comes to waterfowl hunting I always used o/u growing up. Switched to auto a few years back - not sure why - and found a gun that fits me so well, the benelli SBE3. Only took two seasons til it started to be the least reliable gun I've ever owned. Kind of sucks cuz I love shooting it. It just fits well and feels right.
So looking around I've been focusing on reliability. Just keep coming back to the question: why did I move to auto loaders. Go back to o/u. Pull the trigger with confidence knowing it will go boom in the right direction. Still not sure where the auto interest came from - or why so many people don't look at o/u's as waterfowl guns anymore.
Anyways. Keeping an open mind. Hoping for more answers, grateful for the OB feedback.

Had beretta Xtrema2 and A400 Xtreme, put down to try an M2 and never went back, now have one in 12g and 20g, and 11 seasons in on the 12g.
If you only duck hunt a little bit but also shoot clays and doves with same gun, the Beretta gas guns are great. But if you're going to duck hunt a lot in all sorts of weather, the inertia guns are the way to go, lot less parts to clean up after a rain hunt, lot less cleaning needed.

This is super helpful. I use it for ducks pretty much exclusively and I hunt a good amount - salt marsh, fields, timber, sloughs. Not unusual to get rained on or for the gun to get all sorts of shite on it. If gas guns are tougher with that then that narrows things down for me a good bit.

I've been shooting the older outlander version for years and love it.
one of the better guns for the money out there!
Mine has some issues shooting certain shells, and it did lock up on me last week, but it was cold and it got wet.
Over all its a duck and dove killing gun.

Then inertia guns are your friend, much easier to manage hunt in and hunt out, after rain, etc. Lot less moving parts.
My M2s have been bulletproof.

Browning Citori. I have a couple of semis and pump guns but my favorite and the only one I use for any wing shooting is a field grade 26 inch Citori. It has choke tubes but they haven't been removed in years....both barrels are modified. I shoot the same load for ALL waterfowl....ducks and geese alike, 3" #2 Super X. 1.125 oz and 1550 FPS. I only shoot birds that are looking at the spread - no pass shooting - and for the most part the only birds I shoot are committed but I will take a shot after they swung a third time and did not commit if they are within range which is about 30 yards max for me LOL. I do not have ducks and geese like I used to so killing piles of them is not the main reason I go duck and goose hunting. I also use this gun exclusively for dove and all quail / pheasant / upland wing shooting I might do....outside of doves, ducks and geese though I do not do much upland shooting here in Georgia. I can hit with this gun and thats the point as far as I am concerned.

It was mentioned earlier, if you stick with the big 3 you can't go wrong. Unless you are absolutely tied to one gun or system I'll repeat what I always tell people shopping for a shotgun.
Go to the store, close your eyes and shoulder the ones you are thinking about and then open your eyes. The one that lines up the best naturally is the one you should pick.

I switched to an A300 20 gauge 3 years ago and haven’t looked back. I absolutely hate shooting a 12 now

Belgian A5 and your shoulder will fall off after 2 hunts.
