If they are on your land you should be good.
The ones that I know of in the marsh although nobody works them or even claims them if you shoot them they are on “ family” land and you gonna get in trouble not from the law...

I bet they taste great.

They had an old dude that used to let his cows free graze the homochitto national forest near our camp years ago. I always thought he was brave or really dumb. A few times they came through our property and one of them had a yoke on it. It was hilarious watching them run off into the woods making new atv trails for us

The story is, I have a coworker who asked if I liked to hunt. I said of course, and he starts telling me that his family has thousands of acres and they haven’t hunted in a while. A few of us said that we would love to go and hunt it, and he said if you want to shoot a wild cow you’re more than welcome, we have a ton of them out there. From there everyone went bonkers. Bonkers in a sense of being able to go shoot your ribeye kind of way. Then the legal conversation started. I said if it’s on your land and these feral cattle have no markings or tags, I don’t see why it would be any different from a man owning a cow and slaughtering it.

A guy hunting with us in South Texas called them Mavericks, feral cattle; he shot one and I figured it would taste bad, the meat looked very lean, but we cooked some back strap and it was frkn good.

Why would it be illegal to hunt wild cows?

Also, why would it be illegal to hunt farm cows with the owner's permission?

What about horses? I know where some are in Kisatchie. Is .243 enough?

They are protected under the Wild Horse Protection Act of 1971.

But a .243 will do the trick. I've heard a .22mag will work also
