A5 for me... It's all personal preference, though. Shoulder each one and see which one feels the best.

Should be SBEII vs A400 vs A5.
Versa Max doesnt belong in that discussion.
You need to shoulder and hopefully shoot all 3 of them before making a decision. When you're looking at spending $1500+ on a shotgun, the 3 Bs are all high quality just depends on what fits you best.

The A5's inertia system is almost a carbon copy of Benelli's Civolani system. The Remington Versamax uses a carbon copy of the Benelli M4's gas system
If you want gas, get a Versamax (I'd recommend an A400 for gas, but I'm staying within your 3 parameters)
If you want inertia, get whichever feels better for you between the A5 and SBEII
I'm an SBE man

One of those does not belong with the others.
As has already been said, The Remington of old is not the Remington of new.
Throw it out and then go look at the SBE2 (or Super Vinci), A5, and A400.
I have an SBE2 and a Super Vinci so I'm slightly bias but get the one that fits you the best. You won't go wrong with those 3.

Nothing points like a humpback IMHO. Gas operated is great but I'll take an A5 any day of the week.

Don't retire ole Trusty! Just give her a little rest.

Can't beat the A5, at least for me. Grandson # 1 has the Benelli and thinks it's great.

I've shot SBE's for 20 years. Hard to beat...until the Super Vinci.
The SV is just so easy to clean and maintain. I love it.

Get the one that fits u best....and I would add a400 to mix.
A cpl of clay shooters I know have the versa max and it's been a good gun for them. I'm not a big fan of new rem guns

SBEII.
I shoot one... I personally know guys who put 8 cases of steel shot alone through them a season and no issues.

I've always heard the Versa Max was one of the softest 12 ga shooting shotguns out there?
Is this not true?

Don't buy the A5 unless you only want to shoot premium shells
